本課程為醫療科技深造組合課程之一。


醫療科技深造組合課程專為醫學影像、放射治療、醫療化驗科學培育專業人才,亦為有興趣研習醫療科技的人士提供發展先進知識和技術的機會。本課程能:

  • 讓他們在各自的專業學科上作深入探究,藉以全面提升他們的專業知識,從而有助其日後在事業上的發展。
  • 擴闊學生在醫療科學及科技範疇上的視野,使他們能夠應付當前日新月異不斷轉變的工作要求。
  • 讓同學可以在實習的環境中,有效地測試其在日後工作崗位上可能會遇到的種種相關問題。


在醫學物理學是一個交叉學科領域,物理學的概念和方法被應用於人類疾病的診斷和治療。 由於醫療行業的蓬勃發展,香港和周圍地區對醫學物理學家的需求很高。


在醫學物理專科中,本課程旨在培養學生在醫學物理範疇的專業知識和技能,並希望藉此培養他們在專業上的分析及批判能力。課程以學分制運作,為學員提供富有彈性的研習進度,並結合臨床經驗,以期引發及鼓勵學員在專業工作範疇上作出更多的反思及試驗。

 

Programme Aims

This award is offered within the Postgraduate Scheme in Health Technology, which aims to provide students with background in physics, engineering, health technology, as well as others interested in medical physics, with an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in medical physics.


A. Advancement in Knowledge and Skill

  • To teach students core knowledge of medical physics, including radiation therapy, diagnosing imaging, nuclear medicine, and radiation safety physics;
  • To develop specialists in their respective professional disciplines and enhance their career paths;
  • To provide a learning environment for exchanging knowledge and ideas between students, teachers, and professionals;
  • To equip students with knowledge and skills of clinical medical physics for entering the profession of clinical medical physics; and
  • To develop critical and analytical abilities and skills for pursuing further studies and solving challenging clinical problems.


B. Professional Development

  • To develop students' ability in critical analysis and evaluation;
  • To cultivate within healthcare professionals the qualities and attributes that are expected of them;
  • To acquire a higher level of awareness and reflection within the profession and the healthcare industry to improve the quality of healthcare services; and
  • To develop students' leadership ability.


C. Evidence-based Practice

  • To equip students with the necessary skill in research to enable them to perform evidence-based practice in the delivery of healthcare service and industry.


D. Personal Development

  • To provide channels through which practising professionals can continuously develop themselves while at work; and
  • To allow graduates to develop themselves further after graduation.

 

Programme Characteristics

The scope of the programme includes radiation therapy, diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine and medical health physics, which fulfils the educational requirements of a medical physicist. The curriculum is designed to align with the international standards of medical physics graduate education. The teaching faculty includes a large number of experienced clinical professionals, including clinical medical physicists, oncologists, radiologists, etc. The programme prepares students for careers in clinical medical physics, medical technology research and development, academia, government regulation, healthcare industry, entrepreneurship and etc.

Programme Structure

The Postgraduate Scheme in Health Technology consists of the following awards:

  • MSc in Medical Imaging and Radiation Science (MScMIRS)
  • MSc in Medical Laboratory Science (MScMLS)
  • MSc in Medical Physics (MScMP) *

 

To be eligible for the MSc in Medical Physics, students will be required to complete a total of 30 credits:

  • 1 Compulsory Subject (3 credits)

  • 3 Elective Subjects (9 credits)

Entrance Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, or Applied/ Engineering Physics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, radiography or health technology


If you are not a native speaker of English, and your Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification is awarded by institutions where the medium of instruction is not English, you are expected to fulfil the University’s minimum English language requirement for admission purpose. Other Information

There is an option to exit with a PgD in Medical Physics by completing 18 credits with 12 credits from the core subjects and 6 credits from the electives.
