The University has a strong team of academic staff with solid experience in supervising research postgraduate students, many of whom are internationally leading experts in their research areas.

Department of Health Technology and Informatics
The Department of Health Technology and Informatics comprises Medical Laboratory Science and Radiography – two well-established healthcare disciplines whose tertiary education has a long history of over 40 years in Hong Kong. The unique combination of these healthcare disciplines in one department enables us to share expertise, complement each other, and excel in both academic programmes and research.
We strive to excel in research in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Imaging and Radiation Science, Medical Physics, and Medical Data Science. We conduct both basic and translational research under five thematic areas:
- Cancer
- Haemodynamic and Vascular Disorders
- Immunity and Infection
- Metabolic and Ocular Disorders
- Neuroimaging and Neuropathology
Our research laboratories are equipped with advanced instruments for high-impact research work. In addition to working with researchers within the University, we also collaborate with top-notch scholars around the globe. We supervise research students by drawing expertise from within and outside the Department as appropriate.
Our PhD programme aims to provide rigorous training to students who aspire to become researchers or scholars capable of conducting independent and original research and producing research findings that are relevant and significant to their chosen field of specialisation. The graduates will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform investigative work of substance with rigour and wit.
