To earn one credit, students must complete 6 hours/week of teaching activities/professional service over a 13-week semester, as assigned by the Head of Department (HoD)/Dean of School (DoS) or his/her delegate. Students may complete the two credits at any time before thesis submission. They may finish the two credits in a single semester or two different semesters, subject to approval from their Chief Supervisor.
Stipend recipients are not allowed to fulfil part of their departmental training requirement through the completion of these compulsory training credits.
PhD students undertaking teaching supporting activities are required to complete the training programmes organised by the Educational Development Centre (EDC), English Language Centre (ELC) / Chinese Language Centre (CLC) as required before any teaching support activities.
The HoD/DoS or his/her delegate are required to:
- ensure the assigned activities are structured and can be assessed properly;
- submit a performance assessment report to the Subject Assessment Review Panel (SARP) at the end of the semester. The report shall include details of activities undertaken and an overall grade of Pass or Fail for the student concerned.
