Access to Information

Information and notices within PolyU are mainly disseminated to all RPg students through electronic channels including e-mail, website/webpages and Research Student Portal/eStudent. Some academic departments may also communicate with their RPg students through notices and messages on their departmental noticeboards.

It is very important for all RPg students to check these information and notices, especially on matters concerning class attendance and other important news or announcements, as often as possible so that they would not miss any important up-to-date information.

Email

A PolyU Connect account based on the student number is provided to each RPg student for access to the PolyU Connect system which provides e-mail, communication and collaboration services to users. Important notices and information concerning RPg students’ studies may be sent to them by lecturers and different PolyU units, such as Academic Registry (AR) notices on study related arrangements and Library notices on book loans through PolyU Connect. The PolyU Connect Email will be available to all alumni of PolyU and they can continue using their email service upon graduation.

eStudent (for RPg students admitted from the 2018/19 cohort onwards)/Research Student Portal (for RPg students admitted in or before the 2017/18 cohort)

RPg students can obtain useful information relating to their studies at the eStudent (https://www38.polyu.edu.hk/eStudent) or the Research Student Portal (https://www40.polyu.edu.hk/rostudportal/tologin.do) respectively.

NetID

Each RPg student is assigned a Network Identity (NetID) to access PolyU’s central IT facilities and services.

For the first access, he/she has to activate his/her assigned NetID and select his/her Network Password (NetPassword) online via the link provided in the email sent to him/her after the completion of the programme registration procedures or by clicking the “NetID Registration” button on the PUsecure Identity Portal (idPortal) and then follow the system instructions to complete the registration. For any difficulties in activating the account, RPg students can contact the Information Technology Services Office via its hotline at 2766 5900, by WhatsApp/Wechat at 6577 9669, or approach the IT HelpCentre at Room M201, Li Ka Shing Tower for assistance.

Since most of RPg student activities at PolyU (e.g. subject registration, online teaching and learning, and personal data amendment) are transacted on web, RPg students must not divulge their NetPassword or any other personal identification numbers (PINs) to anybody. For security reason, they must also change their account password/PIN regularly and will be held responsible for the actions taken using their account password/PIN.
