Before joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 2015, he was the holder of Lloyd F. Collette Endowed Chair of Financial Services at Louisiana State University in the United States. Complementing his publishing credentials, he is not only an Associate Editor of both Asia-Pacific Journal of Financial Studies and Review of Pacific Basin Financial Markets and Policies, but is also on the editorial board of Journal of Financial Studies.

Professor Lin has wide-ranging research interests conducive to understanding how financial markets work, how firms make decisions and operate, and whether investors behave rationally. Notable channels for his research outputs comprise prestigious academic journals in finance and accounting, including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Accounting Review, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. Particularly noteworthy are his works that shed light on how differences in market structure affect financial markets in dealing with private information; how firms use dividend policy, why they engage in stock splits, and when they issue new equity; as well as insider trading.

This Endowed Professorship will enable Professor Lin to engage in more advanced research in investor behaviour, firms' decision-making and their interactions with financial markets, and also in the creation of useful knowledge for knowledge transfer. With the support of the endowment, he is also planning to engage young scholars in research collaboration and to elevate the School of Accounting and Finance's research to new heights.
