Call for Symposia and Papers

 

ICLASP17:2022 welcomes scholars engaging in sociopsychological research and analyses concerning the role of language in society, including verbal and non-verbal communication. The conference attracts papers that specialize in the application and development of theories of language perceptions, attributions, and language use to understand group and individual behaviour in society.

 

While it has roots in the discipline of language sciences, IALSP also comprises scholars from diverse disciplines such as psychology, social psychology, sociology, communication, applied linguistics, anthropology, educational sciences, and philosophy. Biennially, IALSP convenes for a conference to create opportunities for the scholarly exchange ideas. Please visit the website at https://www.ialsp.org.

 

The areas of interest for language and social psychology (LSP) scholars is wide ranging and includes cross- and intercultural communication, intergroup communication, gender and sexuality, interdisciplinary and patient health discourse, intergenerational communication, the discourse of dementia, institutional talk, and social media among others.

 

The call for papers is now open. Papers should be submitted by 1 February 2022 but no later than 15 February 2022. As this is an online conference, the scheduling of papers across timezones is complex and we need sufficient time to plan the programme. All proposals received by 1 February 2022 will be reviewed, and corresponding authors will be notified of the status of their submissions by 1 March 2022. Proposals submitted by 15 February 2022 will be reviewed and notification will be sent by 15 March 2022.

  • All submissions must include complete contact information for all authors, along with an indication of the corresponding author.
  • All submissions must be in English.
  • To make this an interactive ICLASP17, we want as many of the presentations as possible to be synchronous. To achieve this, we will be setting up time-zone dedicated presentations. However, we recognize that there is a need for flexibility and so there will also be pre-recorded asynchronous presentation options available. Our plan is to have synchronous individual papers and symposia and asynchronous pre-recorded blitz sessions.

Symposia submissions should be a single file containing:

  • The name and complete contact information for the person responsible for the symposium (corresponding author);
  • A 250 word (maximum) introduction to the theme and content of the symposium;
  • An indication of the symposium’s length and the roles of all participants (chair, discussant, presenting author, co-author etc.). We are planning that panel session length will be one hour and ten minutes for four speakers (15 minute presentations and then a discussant for 10 minutes). There will be a five minute break between sessions for people to get themselves a tea, coffee and visit the bathroom.
  • If there are more speakers, the symposium can run over two sessions. However, there must be enough speakers to cover 2 sessions (i.e., two 1 hour 10 minute sessions), otherwise we cannot accept.
  • A list of the individual presentations in order, including the title and abstract for each oral presentation (120 words maximum) and presenting author, and the name, affiliation, and e-mail address of each presenter.

Individual paper submissions should be a single file containing:

  • The names and complete contact information for all authors;
  • A clear indication of which author(s) will present the paper;
  • The title of the paper;
  • Either an extended abstract of the paper (180-250 words in length), or an abstract (120 words maximum) and the full paper;
  • Papers will be 12 minute presentations with three minutes for questions.

Blitz sessions

 

These will be one hour sessions.

 

A blitz presentation will be a five minute talk about a study/topic with a maximum of four slides. We welcome individual submissions for a blitz presentation. We require a 120 word abstract of the talk content for each presentation. It may be that a few people want to put together a blitz session (as in a high density panel) which is fine but there should be no more than 6 presenters in any one blitz session as we want time for discussion from the audience. These will be pre-recorded and available before the conference. People can watch these the week before the conference if they wish. We will run the pre-recorded sessions live during the conference and people can join and ask questions or have already posted up questions that the presenters will answer in the remaining 20 minutes.
