HE Haohuai
Recipient of HKPFS
PhD candidate
Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

My name is Haohuai He, and I am currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) at PolyU, supervised by Prof. Kay Chen Tan. My research primarily focuses on AI-driven drug discovery and interpretable single-cell analysis.
I chose the RPg programme at PolyU because of its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and close integration of AI with impactful real-world applications. With the support of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), I have been able to focus on developing advanced deep learning frameworks such as scKAN and generative models for antibody design. During my studies, I have published my work in journals including Nature Communications and Genome Biology, and I recently secured the NSFC Youth Student Basic Research Project. These achievements would not have been possible without the guidance from my supervisor and the support from PolyU.
This PhD programme has strengthened my technical skills, critical thinking, and confidence as a young researcher. To prospective students, my advice is to stay focused and maintain a steady pace in your research journey. If you are looking for a place where you can focus on high-quality research, receive strong mentorship, and grow in an interdisciplinary environment, PolyU is your choice.
