Biography

 

Professor William Kwok-wai Cheung is currently Associate Vice-President (Transdisciplinary Education), Professor in the Department of Computer Science, and Director of Centre of Health Informatics at Hong Kong Baptist University. He was the Head of the Department of Computer Science from 2017 to 2021. During his headship, an interdisciplinary concentration on Data and Media Communication and an interdisciplinary undergraduate programme on Business Computing and Data Analytics were launched via collaboration with the School of Communication and the School of Business, respectively. He was an Affiliate Member of the School of Information Studies, McGill University, Canada from 2016 to 2019, and was the School’s Visiting Professor in 2016 and 2024. He was also a Visiting Professor at the University of Sheffield in 2024, and a Visiting Scholar at the Information Sciences Institute, University of Southern California, USA, in 2007.

Professor Cheung received his BSc and MPhil degrees in Electronics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1991 and 1993 respectively, and a PhD degree in Computer Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1999. His current research interests include artificial intelligence, data mining, social network analysis, and healthcare informatics.
