Biography

Wayne is a physiotherapist in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom with over 10 years of clinical experience in geriatric rehabilitation. He was awarded the SH Ho Fellowship to support his PhD study in the Division of Geriatrics, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also held various teaching positions in different tertiary institutions before becoming an Assistant Professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2019.

Wayne’s latest research interests focus on fall prevention, geriatric rehabilitation, and exercise interventions for healthy older adults and older adults with cognitive impairment and dementia. He has conducted a number of psychometric studies that evaluated the reliability and validity of physical performance measures in older adults with dementia. He has conducted several randomised controlled trials that investigated the effects of different exercise interventions on physical function and falls in healthy older adults and older adults with dementia. He also implemented many feasibility studies and controlled trials that evaluated the effects of self-management and community rehabilitation interventions on people with chronic diseases.

Wayne has received a number of internal and external competitive grants including the Health and Medical Research Fund and the General Research Fund to support his research on enhancing the consistency and accuracy of assessment and improving physical and cognitive function in older adults with dementia. His work has been shared and presented in multiple international conferences and seminars. He also serves as an Associate Editor of the Australasian Journal on Ageing.

Translating research findings into daily clinical practice has been his goal as a clinical researcher and a geriatric physiotherapist.
