Workshop: Build Private Cloud Drive using SEAFILE

Seafile is a secure, personal cloud storage and file-sharing platform, similar to Dropbox or Google Drive, but with a stronger emphasis on privacy and control. It provides you with your own private space on the internet to store important documents, photos and other files, which you can easily share and collaborate on with family, friends, or colleagues.

As an open-source solution, Seafile is free to use and can be easily installed on your own server. It also offers desktop and mobile apps, allowing you to automatically sync your files across all your devices. In this workshop, you will learn how to build a working Seafile server in a cloud-based virtual private server of your own ownership (a small cost may apply).

This workshop does not require a technical background. It will give you a hands-on experience to work on a cloud-based server and successfully build an application system all on your own, and it is actually not difficult.

18:30 - 19:00	Introduction fo SEAFILE and How to Proceed Brief introduction & demonstration The system building process explanation
19:00 - 20:00	Server Deployment (Hands-on) Each participant will build their own server. Bring your own notebook computer and mouse. Brief introduction of cloud-based server services Cloud-based VPS (Virtual Private Server) deployment Installation of Linux and necessary system software & utilities Installation of security protection utilities
	Install Seafile Proceed for installation of Seafile using Docker Configuration
	Start Experimenting User registration for Seafile & login Download of apps on different devices for Seafile Experiment and experience
20:00 - 20:30	Discussions & FAQ Enquiries, free discussions and follow-up activities

Successful Candidates will be notified on or before 21 May 2025 (Wednesday)
BYOD: Bring your own notebook computer and mouse. In the workshop, each participant will hands-on practically build their own system.
Each participant will order an online server at their own cost, but cost is around us$10. Be prepared for online payment. Free servers for trial might be available too.
Participant will connect to the public WiFi available on campus for the workshop.
Participants should arrange their own isnurance coverage if deemed necessary. MILESAA will not be liable for any personal injury during the event.
