Biography

Dr. Yao Hu is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prior to that, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow of DSAI, as a member of the Machine Intelligence and Nature-Inspired Computing (MIND) Lab. He received his PhD from the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), as well as his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT). During his PhD, he served as an intern at Tsinghua University.

His primary research interests lie in medical multimodal artificial intelligence, aiming to develop integrated systems for full-cycle patient care, serving as advanced clinical decision-support assistants. His current research focuses on vision-language foundation models (VLMs/MLLMs), privacy-preserving domain adaptation, federated learning, and applied deep learning for medical image analysis. His work has been published in various leading artificial intelligence and biomedical venues.
