Introduction

The Culture Promotion Committee (CPC) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) was established in 1999, with the aims of enriching the cultural ambience of PolyU campus and arousing the cultural awareness of members of the University community.
The Committee has gained a reputation in taking a leading role in the promotion of art and culture among tertiary institutions through its signature events and first-ever programmes such as the Artist-in-Residence programmes, theme festivals and cultural exchange programmes. Over the years, the Committee has collaborated with renowned artists and art groups to present a great variety of art and cultural events and programmes, which encompass performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, cultural heritage, and film and media arts. These events and programmes have provided opportunities for students and staff to get together outside class to pursue their interests in art and culture, contributing to the University’s strategic objective of providing all-round education for students.
As the cultural arm of PolyU, the Committee believes in the value of art and culture and the essential part they play in an all-round education. Apart from championing art and culture through its events and programmes, the Committee is also committed to nurturing the artistic talent of PolyU students, staff and alumni. The formation of the three art groups – PolyU Orchestra, PolyU Choir and PolyU Theatre – stands as testament to this commitment.
Looking ahead, the Committee will continue to present a wide array of events and programmes, as well as introduce new art forms and programmes to open ever more windows into the kaleidoscopic world of art and culture for all members of the PolyU community.
