The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) launched the “PolyU Chinese Culture Festival” last March to celebrate the rich diversity of Chinese culture through various artistic themes and forms. The Festival aimed to deepen appreciation of Chinese heritage and strengthen a sense of pride and belonging to the Nation among our staff, students, and the wider community.
This year, in honour of the 60th anniversary of the Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong, we are pleased to collaborate with Guangdong University of Technology to host a series of events focused on national pride, including the original musical production “青春印豐碑” and an exhibition on the construction history of the Dongjiang Water Supply Project.
Centred on the theme of “Role Model of the Times”, the musical production beautifully recounts the inspiring stories of university students from mainland China in the 1960s who dedicated themselves to the Dongjiang Water Supply Project construction. This work emphasises the Nation’s commitment for the well-being of Hong Kong residents and highlights the strong bond between the two regions. It illustrates that the motherland is always Hong Kong’s steadfast support, and having the Nation behind us is our greatest advantage for prosperity and stability. “青春印豐碑” has been included in the commemorative activities for the 60th anniversary of the Dongjiang Water Supply to Hong Kong by the Guangdong Provincial Government and has received commendation from the Ministry of Education.
This musical not only serves as a bridge for cultural exchange between mainland China and Hong Kong but also fosters understanding among young students from both regions, encouraging active participation in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Nation’s modernisation efforts.
