Experience and Opportunities
The Department of Chinese History and Culture, originally the Department of Chinese Culture, was established in September 2008. Its mission is to impart to students a holistic knowledge of the history and culture of China. Students learn to think and engage critically to expand their intellectual horizons and reach an integrated understanding of the relationship between self and society. They acquire firm foundations for advancing their future careers, improving the quality of their lives and becoming responsible national and global citizens.
The Department has many distinctive features. It provides a broad and multidisciplinary curriculum, which covers Chinese Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, Chinese Religion and Chinese Art. Instruction is delivered in both Chinese (Putonghua) and English. These and other features enable the Department to better present the richness and depth of Chinese civilization, explore the reasons for its enduring influence and enrich the multicultural and multi-lingual environment at PolyU.
In addition to offering General University Requirements subjects for all PolyU students, the Department offers a BA (Hon) Programme in Chinese History and Culture, a Minor Programme in Chinese History and Culture, an MA Program in Chinese Culture as well as a Research Postgraduate programme up to the PhD. Interested students are welcome to apply!
