Ir Prof. Lee Wing-bun has made significant contributions to both his research fields and the University. He not only oversaw the introduction of the world’s first Bachelor of Science in Enterprise Engineering with Management, but also pioneered the study of mesoplasticity modelling and its applications in ultra-precision machining research, leading to him being the founding Head of the State Key Laboratory of Ultra-Precision Machining Technology at PolyU. A visionary that recognised the importance of knowledge management, he was also the founding Director of PolyU’s Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Centre; it was the first research centre of its kind in Hong Kong and Mainland China when it opened in 2007. With expertise in advanced manufacturing technology and manufacturing strategy, Prof. Lee’s inventions won three international awards at the 36th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, as well as a Gold Medal with the Congratulations of the Jury at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva.
