Accounting Research Conference 2023

The School of Accounting and Finance (AF) will host the Accounting Research Conference 2023 on The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) campus on 18 November (Saturday). The conference brings together excellent rising scholars who will present their unpublished manuscripts in vast areas of accounting research. Each presentation will be followed by a discussion led by a renowned professor.   The conference will be open to all participants from Hong Kong universities on a first-come-first-served basis. It aims to provide an invaluable opportunity for attendees to network with and gain insights from outstanding academics.   Registration: The registration fee is HKD2500 per person and covers all conference materials, tea breaks, a lunch, and a dinner. The registration fee for presenters, discussants, moderators, AF staff and students will be waived. Please register by 5 November 2023 (Sunday). ESG 認證嘉許暨永續發展論壇 2023

Prof. Jie (Jay) Cao, Professor of Finance at the School of Accounting and Finance, joined the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative’s Academic Working Group as a founding member at the UNCTAD 8th World Investment Forum 2023 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on 16-20 October 2023. Fixed Income and Institutions Research Symposium

The Fixed Income and Institutions Research Symposium will feature in-depth paper presentations and discussions in the area of fixed income and related financial institutions, and provide a platform for participants to meet with renowned academics, to exchange their new thoughts and insights.   The one-day symposium will provide coffee breaks, a lunch, and a dinner. Registration is free of charge and will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.   Programme: Please click here to view the programme.   Keynote Speakers:     Lukas Schmid, Professor of Finance and Business Economics, University of Southern California   Lukas Schmid is Professor of Finance and Business Economics at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, and a CEPR Research Fellow. Before joining Marshall, Lukas spent a decade at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He currently serves as an Editor for the Finance Area at Management Science, and as an Associate Editor at the Journal of Finance. Lukas' research interests are in dynamic quantitative modeling and structural estimation applied at the intersection of macroeconomics and financial economics. His most recent work was concerned with corporate and sovereign default and credit risk, as well as links between innovation, long-run growth and financial market performance. Lukas’ research has been published in outlets such as the American Economic Review, the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies and the Journal of Monetary Economics. His work on capital structure and asset returns was awarded a Smith-Breeden Award (First Prize) for the best paper in the Journal of Finance, 2010. At Marshall, he teaches investments to undergraduate students and advanced asset pricing to PhD students. Lukas obtained a master’s degree in mathematics from ETH Zurich and a PhD in Finance from the University of Lausanne & Swiss Finance Institute.       Hua He, Professor of Financial Practice, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB)   Hua He is the Founder of 9M Technologies and Professor of Financial Practice at CKGSB. Before setting up 9MT, Dr He served as the Executive Chairman of the Capital Markets Committee at China International Capital Corporation (CICC). Prior to his engagement with CICC, Dr He has worked at Lehman Brothers and Nomura Securities in Hong Kong for 10 years, holding senior positions as Head of China Equities, Head of Fixed Income and Equity Research for the Asia Pacific region.   Earlier, Dr He held positions as Managing Director at Salomon Brothers and Convergence Asset Management (CAM). Prof. Jack Poon was appointed as a member of the Task Force on promoting Hong Kong Web3 Development

Prof. Jack Poon, Professor of Practice (Fintech, Entrepreneurial Finance) of the School of Accounting and Finance, has been appointed by the Government as a member of the Task Force on Promoting Web3 Development.  Chaired by the Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan, the Task Force aims to provide recommendations on the sustainable and responsible development of Web3 in Hong Kong.  The appointment will take effect from 1 July 2023, for two years.   Press Release Task Force on Promoting Web3 Development established

Our student team won the first runner-up at the CGMA Global Business Challenge 2023

Congratulations to our students for winning the first runner-up at the CGMA Global Business Challenge 2023! The team consist of BBA in Accountancy students Ngai Yee Ting and Zhai Danjie, BBA in Accounting and Finance student Wan Ka Yan and BBA in Management student Lun Kocki Thomas. Special thanks to Dr William Wong for coaching the team. The CGMA® Global Business Challenge 2023 is an international business competition held by AICPA® & CIMA® for nurturing young business leaders. It provides students with an opportunity to gain practical experience and fulfil leadership potential.

B. Wong & Co. Higher Diploma in Accountancy (1982) Mr Wong Chun Bong, Alex is a certified public accountant and is the founder and proprietor of C.B. Wong & Co. He has previously worked as a lecturer at his alma mater. Alex is a Council Member of the University and has served on various committees. He is particularly active in alumni affairs and has served as the President and Director of the Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Association and the Accounting and Finance Graduates Association. Alex is also known for being a staunch supporter of university-wide initiatives. He has made generous contributions towards mentoring students and improving the University’s facilities.   Outstanding Young Alumni Award in Professional Achievement of PolyU School of Accounting and Finance The Hon. WONG Chun Sek, Edmund黃俊碩議員 Legislative Councillor, Legislative Council of HKSAR Master of Professional Accounting (2021)   Hon. Wong Chun Sek, Edmund is a legislative councillor representing the accountancy sector in Hong Kong. He has served on various committees for professional bodies, including the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) and the Society of Chinese Accountants and Auditors (SCAA). Edmund is a Fellow Certified Public Accountant (Practising) and is currently the Practising Director of Patrick Wong CPA Limited. He is a loyal supporter of the School of Accounting and Finance's student development programmes and has made generous contributions towards nurturing young professionals for the industry. Edmund is also known for his continuous commitment to community and voluntary services. He is actively involved in district affairs and different uniformed groups.     Outstanding Young Alumni Award in Entrepreneurial Achievement of PolyU School of Accounting and Finance Mr LI Wai Ming, Wallace李偉明先生 Founder and Director, Crudo International Limited Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) in Accounting and Finance (2013)   Mr Li Wai Ming, Wallace is the Founder and Director of Crudo International Limited, a fashion and accessory company specialising in customised fashion and leather goods. Wallace’s outlets can be found in many major shopping malls. In recent years, his e-commerce business has helped him to identify a niche in the overseas market and acquire a wide global fan base. An accounting graduate and budding entrepreneur, Wallace devised various innovative design and production techniques to develop his unique product lines. He also collaborated with local and international partners to promote sustainability, especially the use of natural tanning and recycled leather, in the industry. Wallace is also known for his support to the School’s student activities. He was actively involved in student activities during his undergraduate years.
