ABCT PhD Students Recognized with Prestigious Awards in Macau and Korea

We are proud to announce that ABCT PhD students have received notable accolades: the R&D Award for Postgraduates from the 2024 Science and Technology Awards of the Macao SAR and the Best Presentation Award at the Liver Week Conference 2025 in Gyeongju, Korea.

 

Dr. Martina Mang Leng Lei, a PhD graduate under the supervision of Prof. Terence Lee, has been awarded the R&D Award for Postgraduates at the 2024 Science and Technology Awards of the Macao SAR on May 28, 2025. This recognition highlights her outstanding research on the crucial immune evasion mechanisms relevant to current immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy for liver cancer. Her work has the potential to shed light in new combinatorial therapies aimed at enhancing the response rates of existing ICI treatments.Dr. Lei was also the recipient of the PolyU PhD Thesis Award in 2024. Miss Mandy Sze Man Chan, a current PhD student also under the guidance of Prof. Terence Lee, received the Best Presentation Award during the oral poster session at the Liver Week Conference 2025 in Gyeongju, Korea on May 31, 2025. Additionally, she was honored with a Travel Award for her exceptional abstract writing. Her research focuses on identifying key kinases that facilitate immune evasion by macrophages in liver cancer, paving the way for new strategies in immunotherapy for liver cancer.
