Summary
Abstract
Oblique detonation engine (ODE) has a great potential application in hypersonic air-breathing propulsion systems, but several key techniques are imperative to be solved before its practice applications. This report mainly introduces our recent progresses on ODEs, including the theoretical propulsion performance analyses, destabilization mechanisms of oblique detonation waves in the engine combustor and the relevant design criteria, and the fuel pre-injection and detonation initiation techniques. The results of the concept-demonstration experiments of ODE, fueled by gaseous hydrogen or liquid kerosene, conducted in a large-scale hypersonic wind tunnel are presented as well.
Speaker
Dr Zijian Zhang is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his Bachelor degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the Department of Modern Mechanics, University of Science and Technology of China in 2015, and his PhD degree in Fluid Mechanics from Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2020. His current research interests include hypersonic air-breathing propulsion technology, detonation and combustion phenomena, high-temperature gas dynamics, and high-speed multiphase flow.
