Summary
Abstract
Moderate or intense low-oxygen dilution (MILD) combustion, also known as flameless combustion, has drawn much attention as a unique phenomenon and a clean technology of combustion with super-low NOx emission. In the context of global warming and atmospheric pollution, MILD combustion is ideal for enhancing thermal efficiency and reducing emissions. In this seminar, some fundamental research on the occurrence and emission characteristics of MILD combustion will be introduced. In order to quantitatively explore the profiles of this combustion phenomenon, methods of chemical calculations, CFD simulations and laser diagnostics using absorption spectroscopy are developed and conducted. The principles of these methods and the latest work by Dr Cheong’s Group regarding these methods, particularly the advances in tomographic absorption spectroscopy, will be presented.
