Guest Speaker: Prof. ZHAO Dongyuan 赵东元教授

Dean & Hao-Qing Professor, School of Chemistry and Materials Science, Fudan University

Professor Zhao Dongyuan is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). Currently, he serves as the Dean and “Hao-Qing” Professor of School of Chemistry and Materials Science at Fudan University. He also holds positions as Executive Editor for ACS Central Science, Deputy Editor for National Science Review, President of International Mesostructured Materials Association (IMMA), Council Member of the International Zeolite Association (IZA), Chief Scientist for the National Natural Science Foundation’s Center for Functional Mesoporous Materials, and Director of Wusong Laboratory of Materials Science (Shanghai).

Professor Dongyuan Zhao has been dedicated to investigation of functional mesoporous materials for nearly 30 years. He has proposed a series of innovative strategies for synthesizing functional mesoporous materials, thereby advancing their utilization in areas such as petroleum catalysis, fine chemical industries, and energy conversion and storage. His research in synthesizing and application of functional mesoporous materials has yielded systematic, groundbreaking results. He has published more than 800 high-quality peer-reviewed paper with over 150,000 citations, achieving an impressive H-index of 191. Internationally recognized as a leading figure in the field of mesoporous materials, his achievements have been widely adopted by numerous scientific research institutions across various countries and regions.

Abstract

The world of mesoporous materials science is flourishing across various interdisciplinary areas, and a variety of advanced mesostructures with unknown potentials are awaiting our exploration. Over the past three decades, our group has been endeavoring to develop diverse strategies to construct functional mesoporous materials with well-designed compositions, morphologies, and mesostructures. In this seminar, we will introduce the development history and current situation of mesoporous materials, as well as future opportunities and challenges from a chemist’s perspective. Based on the idea of micellar interface assembly, we focus on a series of innovative methods for the synthesis of multilevel and asymmetrically structured functional mesoporous materials, especially a new concept of super-assembly using monomicelles as meso-building unit. This approach enables us to precisely prepare a series of novel structural functional mesoporous materials, which not only have unique and uniform morphology, but also controllable mesoscopic pore structure, high specific surface area, and open pore channel. Moreover, we will also highlight the recent applications of functional mesoporous materials in adsorption, separation, catalysis, biomedicine, energy storage, sensor, and other interdisciplinary fields.
