Visa and Insurance
Hong Kong student visa (for entry into Hong Kong)
  • All overseas students (including Chinese passport holders) who attend the summer programme must obtain a student visa.
  • PolyU will act as your visa sponsor and submit the application and required documents to the Hong Kong Immigration Department on your behalf. It usually takes 4 - 6 weeks for the Immigration Department to process your visa application. To ensure your application is processed without delay, please ensure you have submitted all the required documents when you send us your completed visa application.
  • When your visa is issued, IAO will collect it on your behalf and send it to you via FedEx to the address you have provided on your enrolment form. Please ensure your address is correct on the form and if there is a change of address after your submission, please inform IAO as soon as possible.
 
Special note for Chinese passport holder studying overseas
  • In addition to your Hong Kong student visa, there are other documents you will need before you can study and stay in Hong Kong.
  • You must travel from your current country of residence back to your home town in Mainland China first to apply for an Exit-Entry Permit (EEP) for travelling between Hong Kong and Macau. (往來港澳通??.You will need your approved Hong Kong student visa.
  • You will also need to arrange a relevant exit endorsement (??赴港簽注) from the Public Security Bureau Office where your household registration is kept (?口??地?公安??出?管?8?).
  • The entry permit label should be affixed onto a blank endorsement page of your EEP.
  • You will need to present your EEP to immigration when you enter Hong Kong.
  • Application for EEP may take 5- 14 working days to process and will vary from city/provinces. Please take note of this in your planning.
 
 
Special note for Taiwanese passport holder studying overseas
  • You will be issued an "Entry Permit" instead of a student visa.
  • This permit is applicable for a single entry only and you are not allowed to leave Hong Kong during the exchange.
 
China Visa (for entry into Mainland China)
  • The Hong Kong student visa you have applied for will allow you to study in Hong Kong only. You will need to apply for a separate China visa for entry into Mainland China for the optional tour to Guangzhou.
  • You will be responsible for the arrangement of your China visa. You can apply for one at the Chinese Embassy of your home city. Please check with the Embassy on how long the application process will take and ensure that you can receive it before your departure for Hong Kong.
  • Please remember to send IAO a copy of your China visa by email once you have received it.
  • IMPORTANT: you are strongly advised to apply for your China visa well in advance in your home country before you arrive in Hong Kong. If you apply for your China visa after arriving in Hong Kong and your application is unsuccessful, no refund will be made for your tour to Guangzhou.
Arrange your Insurance
  • IAO will arrange insurance for your stay in Hong Kong which will cover the whole duration of the summer programme, including the tour to Guangzhou. The premium of the insurance is included in the programme fee and the coverage is summarised below:

    Emergency medical evacuation & repatriation of remains No limit
  • Please note that this insurance policy does NOT cover your travel dates between your home country and Hong Kong, loss or theft of personal belongings and/or baggage, and other items which are not listed above.
  • For better protection, you are strongly advised to purchase additional insurance at your own discretion to cover the loss of baggage and personal belongings, accidents and death.
  • IMPORTANT: Due to the limitation of this current insurance policy, Chinese passport holders who are joining the optional study tour to Guangzhou MUST purchase additional insurance to cover your stay in Mainland China.
