Led by Mr Raymond Kwong, a group of 10 SHTM final year students organised a dinner event with a theme of "Sari Enigma, Indian Night" in Bistro 1979 on 23 March 2011. The event was very well attended, and participants included Mr Deepak Kaul, Consul, Consulate General of India.

The SHTM participated in the PolyU Inaugural International Weeks 2011,which had a theme of "Appreciating and Embracing Global Diversity". Dr Thomas Bauer delivered a seminar entitled "Voyages to Antarctica" on 25 March, while Mr Murray Mackenzie conducted the "Wines from around the world: An introduction to wine tasting workshop" at the SHTM's Vinoteca Lab on 26 March.

Dean Kaye Chon and Dr David Jones attended the International Convention Expo Summit 2011 organised by Hallym University of Graduate Studies in Seoul, in partnership with the SHTM and the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (Singapore Campus), and held in Seoul and Chuncheon, South Korea, on 1-3 April 2011. Dean Chon spoke on "The Need to Develop Asia's leadership – Convention and Events Industry".

Dean Kaye Chon attended the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Executive Board and PATA Board Meeting as the PATA Board member and Chairman of PATA Education and Training Committee in Beijing, China on 8-13 April 2011.

Dr Thomas Bauer presented a paper entitled "Towards a Sustainable Tourism Industry in China Issues and Solutions" at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Seminar held at Beijing International Studies University, China on 9 April 2011.

Dr Simon Wong presented a paper entitled "Will Classroom Learning Environment Affect Creativity of Hospitality Degree Students? Case Study of Taiwan" at the Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) 2011 European Chapter Conference in Archamps, France, on 11-13 April 2011.

Dr David Jones spoke on the topic of "Risk Management of Meetings and Conferences" at the China (Shanghai) International Meetings and Conferences Forum 2011 in Shanghai, China on 12-13 April 2011.

Dr Thomas Bauer gave a speech on "From Polar Bears to Cassowaries Saving Endangered Species" held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 19 April 2011.

Dr Thomas Bauer was invited as keynote speaker on the topic "Trends and Hot Issues in International Tourism Research" at the Annual Symposium of the China Tourism Academy in Beijing, China on 23 April 2011.

Dr Thomas Bauer spoke on the topic of "The Role of Tourism in Economic Development and Poverty Alleviation" at the IV Astana Economic Forum in Astana, Kazhakhstan on 3-4 May 2011.

Professor Bob McKercher delivered an invited keynote speech on "Are We Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility?" at the International Conference on Sustainable Development, Innovation and Education of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure in Taipei, Taiwan on 6-7 May 2011.

Professor Haiyan Song, Professor Rob Law and Dr Edmond Wu attended the International Hospitality and Tourism Education Summit in Guangzhou, China on
11-13 May 2011. Professor Song was invited as keynote speaker and spoke on "Innovations in Hospitality Education". Professor Law and Dr Wu co-presented a paper entitled "A Study of Information Quality on Airport Websites in Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America".

Dr Thomas Bauer was invited as a speaker on the topic "Promoting Sustainable Tourism" at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Thailand Chapter event: Thailand Tourism Marketing: Mapping the Future in Bangkok, Thailand on 19 May 2011.

Dean Kaye Chon was invited to speak at the 27th International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) World Ports Conference in Busan, Korea on 23-27 May 2011.
