ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION

Ms Shao Peiyuan, a year-two student in the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management programme, and her team received the Gold Award for Innovation in the Global Student Challenge (GSC): PolyU Pre-Challenge 2010/11 at an award presentation ceremony held on the PolyU campus on 9 March 2011.

The PolyU Chapter of Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) Initiation Ceremony took place at the SHTM on 16 March 2011. Led by Mr Paris Sze, President of the Chapter, a total of twenty-three SHTM students became ESD members in testimony to their outstanding academic achievements. Mr William Mackay, Regional Vice-President and General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, addressed the Ceremony and shared with new ESD members his valuable experience in the hospitality industry.



Ms Leung Wing-ki, Kiki, Ms Lai Tsz-kwan, Candy and Ms Ma Lai-ying, final year students in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, won the Best Itinerary and Grand Prize of "My 7 Amazing Days in NZ" Competition co-organized by Air New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand in March 2011.

Dr Simon Song, a 2010 graduate of the Doctor of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, was presented the 2011 UNLV Harrah's Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award in Hospitality for his PhD thesis on "The Antecedents and Consequences of Socializees' Adjustment during their Organisational Assimilation: An Integrative Study".

Mr Guenther Karch, Ms Chloe Lau, and their teams were involved in a project entitled "Education with a Heart: Service-Learning in PolyU". The project received the "PolyU Outstanding Teaching Development Projects Award 2011" at a presentation ceremony held during the "2011 Symposium: Excellent Teachers on Teaching Excellence" on 5 May.
