ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION

Ms Leung Wing-ki, Kiki, a final year student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, Ms Lee Cheuk-yiu, Carol and Ms To Wing-ki, Winnie, final year students in the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management programme, were selected as Young SKAL 2010, and were also recipients of the Rudy Choy Educational Fund Scholarship. The award was presented to the students at the Rudy Choy Educational Fund Scholarship Presentation Ceremony on Young Skal Day on 27 October 2010.

Mr Eddy Kurobuza Tukamushaba, a research student in the Doctor of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, won the Academy of Management – International Management Division Best Paper in OB/HRM/OT Award for an article he co-authored, entitled "Human Factor, Organizational Justice and Organizational Effectiveness in Sub-Saharan Africa".

Mr Shum Tsz-fung, a year-four student in the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management programme, successfully passed the Open Audition of the Artist-in-Residence programme of the Culture Promotion Committee, PolyU. Mr Shum performed in the finale concert "The Golden Harp and the Blue Danube with the PolyU", with the University's Artist-in-Residence, passionate conductor Mr Choi Ho-man, Music Director of the Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong, and his Pro Arte Orchestra and renowned harp virtuoso from Korea, Ms Jung Kwak, at the Jockey Club Auditorium on 26 November 2010. He also received a full-tuition Scholarship for the 2010-2011 Season of the Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong, a cradle for young musicians, and will be performing with the Orchestra in other public concerts during the season.

Ms Chow Wing Ting, Jamie, a year-three student in the HD in Tourism Management programme, and Ms Xu Peirou, a student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, have been giving piano performances at the Zeffirino Ristorante of the Regal Hong Kong Hotel every Sunday afternoon since October. The students are performing on voluntary basis until December and are playing to an appreciative audience.

Eleven SHTM students are recipients of the HKSAR Government Scholarship 2010/11. The awardees are expected to demonstrate continued contribution to PolyU or the community and demonstrate their leadership as well as good communication skills during the academic year 2010/11. These students are:

  • Chan Pui Yee, Year 2 student of the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management
  • Chow Ka Ho, Year 2 student of the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management
  • Fung Kin Ho, Year 3 student of the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management
  • Han Qi, Year 3 student of the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management
  • Lau Yuen Tung, Connie, Year 2 student of the BSc(Hons) in Toursim Management
  • Lei Elkie, Year 3 student of the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management
  • Liu Yue, Year 3 student of the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management
  • Ng Ka Wai, Joyce, Year 2 student of the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management
  • Tan Xiao, Year 4 student of the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management
  • Wang Cong, Year 3 student of the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management
  • Yeung Shuk Ting, Year 2 student of the BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management
