Mr Frank Wolfe , HFTP CEO and Executive Vice President, delivered a talk on “ GUESTROOM 2010 ”, a model guestroom of the future. GUESTROOM 2010 showcases the world of possibilities that exists from both within the hospitality industry and that come from exciting innovators not normally associated with guestrooms, such as IBM, Philips and OSIM.

Professor Agnes Defranco , of the Conrad N. Hilton College at the University of Houston , a Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive, Certified Hospitality Educator Cadre member and HFTP International President, delivered a seminar on “ How to Teach so Students will Learn ” for teaching staff of the SHTM and other PolyU departments. The seminar offered insights into areas of teaching and learning such as why active engagement is important for long-term learning amongst students.

Professor Hao Ren , Director of the Beijing Sports University Olympics Studies Centre, visited the SHTM in April and delivered a seminar on “ Olympics Research and the Beijing Sports University Olympics Studies Centre” . 

Xian Study Tour

40 SHTM students participated in a five-day study tour of Xian in May. The tour provided students with the opportunity to meet and interact with counterparts from Xian Jiaotong University and Xian Tongli College . They also attended workshops and participated in fieldtrips to learn about the local politics, economics, culture, geography and art. In particular, they were able to obtain in-depth experience through the practical study of tourism and hotel management in mainland China , and gain an understanding of the way in which tourism is developing Xian, a famous historical and cultural attraction.
