In the 2011-12 Policy Address, the Chief Executive announced the adoption of a visionary, coordinated and integrated approach to transform Kowloon East into a new Central Business District (CBD) to sustain Hong Kong's economic development. Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO) was set up in 2012 to steer and monitor this development. PolyU is now organizing the "Smart-e City Competition" for students to formulate a proposal to pitch their innovative ideas for developing Kowloon East into a "Smart City" to the government.
