A prime objective of PolyU is to create competitive edge for our students and the community. The PolyU Student Development Fund was set up specifically for this purpose. It helps finance mainly two programmes:
'Preferred Graduates' Development Programme & Leadership and Competence for Success Prorgamme designed to enhance the all-round development of students and promote their readiness to face and tackle challenges in the workplace upon graduation.

Preferred Graduates' Development Programme (PGDP)

Introduced in 1997, PGDP is one of the largest work-integrated
learning programmes among universities in Hong Kong.

The purpose of this placement programme is to expose students to actual working environment before their graduation to prepare for their readiness to work.

Placements are offered in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and
overseas.

Subsidy is needed for the provision of transportation,
accommodation and daily expenses for students offered an
overseas or Chinese mainland placement, according to individual situation.

It is a mutually beneficial programme for both our students and
participating employers.

Achievement
With the support of over 1,297 partner companies and supporting
organizations, more than 9,300 students have been successfully
placed for internship to gain practical experience, polish their
professional skills and improve market knowledge.

Leadership and Competence for Success Programme (LCSP)

Launched in 2001, LCSP aims to equip students with the
necessary skills to become outstanding executives when
they leave the campus.

Improve students' leadership qualities like self-confidence,
interpersonal relationships and networking ability, team
building, time & resource management, creative thinking and problem solving, EQ, and personal goal-setting through
an intensive self-experiential training camp.

The scheme has been enthusiastically received by students. Many of them said the experience widened their outlook on
both their career and life in general.

Achievement
Over 1,500 students have undergone the training from
2001 to 2003. A total of 1,100 students will benefit from
the programme in 2004.
