Memorial
Scholarship established to pay tribute to the late Dr Y. K. Ching
In order to pay
tribute to the late Dr Y.K. Ching, the last Principal of the
Hong Kong Technical College (predecessor of PolyU), some alumni
together with PolyU¡¦s Industrial Centre (IC) have recently
raised nearly HK$1.9 million for the establishment of the Dr Y.K.
Ching Memorial Scholarship.
Professor Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President, highly commended Dr
Ching for his lifelong devotion to education, especially his
tremendous contributions towards the development of technical
education in Hong Kong, in particular upgrading of the former Hong
Kong Technical College to the Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1972.
Through the
establishment of the Memorial Scholarship, PolyU aims to continue Dr
Ching¡¦s teaching to encourage its students to strengthen themselves
and serve the community more at the same time. It is proposed that
scholarships are to be equally distributed to Engineering and
non-Engineering students. At least 2 scholarships with a minimum
total amount of HK$20,000 will be disbursed in each academic year.
