This year¡¦s ¡§Greening Hong Kong by PolyU Alumni¡¨ tree-planting event will be held in November, with the aim to unite the efforts of all PolyU alumni to contribute towards the community and the betterment of our environment.  Besides, all surplus generated from the activity will be donated to The Community Chest of Hong Kong and to PolyU for alumni development.  Don¡¦t miss the chance to join us for this meaningful event!

Farewell Dinner in Honour of President Prof. Poon Chung-kwong

PolyU President Prof. Poon Chung-kwong will retire at the end of 2008.  A farewell dinner will be organized on Monday, 15 December 2008 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to bid him a warm farewell and to express appreciation for his outstanding leadership, dedication and distinguished service for the University for the past 18 years.  Dr the Hon. Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of HKSAR and Chancellor of the University, and Mrs Tsang will also attend this event.  All surplus generated will be donated towards the newly established ¡§Professor Poon Chung-kwong Scholarship¡¨, or equivalent, in support of Prof. Poon¡¦s continuing pursuit of nurturing talents for the community.

PolyU Invites Nomination for 7th Outstanding Alumni Award

PolyU and the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations are jointly organizing the selection for ¡§Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2009¡¨.  This biennial selection aims to accord public recognition to distinguished graduates of PolyU and its forerunners for their remarkable professional achievements and contributions to their alma mater and the community.  Nominations for award will be invited from late September and details will be available on the event website More>> 

PolyU Experts Help Chinese Gymnasts Strike Gold in Beijing Olympic Games

PolyU shares the joy and honour of the Chinese athletes in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.  The expert team led by Dr Bob Chen of the Faculty of Health and Social Science has made important contribution to the speedy recovery of Mr Li Xiaopeng, a key member of the national gymnastics team, who had suffered from leg injury last year.  The Chinese gymnasts have recently won the Gold Medals in the Games in men's and women's gymnastics.  More>>

Dr Chen also provided comprehensive rehabilitation therapy to Ms Zhang Ning, who has won the Badminton Women's Singles Gold Medal in the Games.

Dr Fu Siu-ngor of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences also focused her rehabilitation and physiotherapy services to the Judo, Boxing and Wrestling athletes.  The tailored-made exercise provided by Dr Fu helped Ms Tong Wen, the Judo Women's Gold Medalist in the Games, fighting for the medal.  More>>

APSS celebrated its 35th Anniversary and presented its 2nd APSS' Outstanding Alumni Awards at a dinner on 27 June.  Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Secretary for Labour & Welfare, HKSAR, was the Guest of Honour of the evening.  The awardees are:

Space Exploration ¡V from Daily Life to Scientific Research (12 July): The seminar aimed to showcase how PolyU researchers from different disciplines contributed to space exploration with their dedication in giving the world a better understanding of the outer space and to ignite the desire of our new generations of explorers for space discovery.  A guided tour to the University's House of Innovation was also organized to present PolyU's remarkable research achievements in aerospace.  More>>

In Memory of Mr FOO Tak-nam

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing away of Mr Foo Tak-nam, Founding President of the PolyU (Western Canada) Association (1996¡V99), former Head of Department of Applied Social Studies (1987¡V90) and PolyU University Fellow, in Vancouver, Canada on 20 August. 

Other than PolyU, Mr Foo has also served in many governmental units and non-governmental organizations in the areas of mental health, rehabilitation, education, race relations and multiculturalism both in Hong Kong and Canada.  Besides, he has made tremendous contributions towards the development of PolyU's overseas network in Canada.
