PolyU Virtual Campus in Second Life

PolyU is the first tertiary educational institute in Asia which has its virtual campus in Second Life with interactive teaching activities and immersive learning environment for students. The development of the virtual platform of Second Life started in 2007, containing a wide range of facilities such as a library, a teaching hotel, an exhibition centre, a medical centre and other areas for educational use. In early 2010, a brand new “Alumni Tower” has been added in the virtual campus to connect all alumni, both local and overseas, with their alma mater. All you need to do is to register for an “Avatar” in Second Life to communicate and connect with other online players.

“Alumni Tower” in Second Life

The “Alumni Tower” is an imitation of the academic building of the former Hong Kong Government Trade School and Hong Kong Technical College, PolyU's forerunners, previously located in Wood Road, Wanchai. The building was demolished in the 1980s and reconstructed to the Vocational Training Council. Facilities inside the Alumni Tower include Exhibition Hall, Alumni Gallery, Free Gift Area, Promotion Area, Happy Hour Cafe, etc.

Alumni can use their “Avatar” to communicate and connect with each other at the Happy Hour Cafe located at the Alumni Tower in Second Life.
