CHAN Yau Shan Zoe

Zoe is a joint PhD candidate between The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Calgary. She completed her MPhil at RS, PolyU, in 2018 and chose to further her studies at PolyU for the fact that multi-disciplinary collaboration is highly encouraged within the university.

Her MPhil research focused on biofeedback gait retraining for runners which has been found effective in reducing running-related injuries. Most of the published gait retraining studies were lab-based where runners were trained on treadmills. Limitations were being identified with lab-based training, such as low accessibility and lack of evidence on the effect being sustained in real-world running conditions.

With the advancement of wearable technology, gait retraining can be conducted in a natural training environment. Real-world training has been suggested for optimising the training effects. The overarching aim of her PhD study is to establish a protocol for reducing impact loading through gait retraining under real-world running conditions using wearable sensors.
