I am a PolyU student. Can I attend both the regular Summer Term and the International Summer School?

Yes, all PolyU full-time bachelor’s degree students can attend both, given that the schedules are clash free.

Accommodation

Can I apply for on-campus accommodation?

Yes, you can apply for on-campus accommodation. An online application will be sent to you after you have settled the deposit.

If I apply for on-campus accommodation, can I choose my roommate?

To encourage cultural exchange, you will be assigned a roommate on a random basis.

Do I need to apply for Summer Hall Residence if I have applied for on-campus accommodation provided by the International Summer School?

No, the university guarantees accommodation in the Hung Hom Halls of Residence for students joining the International Summer School 2020 and the accommodation fee is waived for non-final-year degree students of government-funded programmes, who have paid the installments of tuition fees in the academic year of 2019/20.

Can I choose to stay in the Homantin Halls during the Summer School period if I’m currently living there / I’ve got an offer of the Homantin Halls in the next semester?

Free accommodation will only be given to the International Summer School participants who choose to stay in the Hung Hom Halls.

Can I apply for hall extension in between the check-out date of Semester 2 and check-in date of Summer School / after the end of the Summer School?

You are advised to contact the responsible officer of the Student Halls directly for hall extension application. 

I am a non-local PolyU Student, can I check-out and go back to my home country earlier?

You are advised to check-out as scheduled since there may be make-up classes / examinations.  If it is necessary for you to do so, please make sure you have finished all assessments and exams of your selected subject(s) before you leave.

 

Subjects

How many subjects can I take?

You can take up to two subjects.

Can I withdraw from the programme after making the payment?

Yes, you need to inform the International Summer School via email if you wish to withdraw from the programme after making the payment. However, tuition fees and / or deposits paid are not refundable, except if you withdraw from the International Summer School in order to attend the regular Summer Term and / or fulfill Work-Integrated Education (WIE) as required by programme which clashes with the International Summer School schedule. You are also required to provide supporting documents (e.g. subject registration record for regular Summer Term, confirmation letter / email of your WIE programme, etc.) for refund arrangement.

Can I change my selected subject(s) after registration?

Before the International Summer School starts: 
You can submit your application for change of subject(s) via email to the International Summer School. Your application will be considered subject to vacancy and on a first-come, first-served basis. If you drop a subject without any replacement, the deposit and tuition fee will NOT be refunded.

During the International Summer School period:
You can only change your subject(s) during the add / drop period of the International Summer School, subject to vacancy and on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications for an additional subject during the add / drop period will NOT be accepted. If you drop a subject without any replacement, the deposit and tuition fee will NOT be refunded.

What should I do if I want to drop a subject after the add / drop period of Summer School?

You are required to submit an application for subject withdrawal to the programme offering department before the second last class and seek approval from both the programme leader and the subject lecturer concerned. An administration fee of HKD110 will be charged and the HKD1,000 deposit paid for the subject will NOT be refunded. The withdrawn subject will still be reported in your Assessment Result Notification and Transcript of Studies although it will not be counted in GPA calculation.

Is the tuition fee refundable?

The tuition fee is non-refundable, except in the case of programme cancellation.

Is the deposit refundable?

The deposit will be refunded in early October upon successful completion of the programme. However, if a student drops a subject without any replacement / withdraws from the International Summer School, the deposit paid will NOT be refunded, except only if he / she drops a subject / withdraws from the International Summer School in order to attend the regular Summer Term and / or fulfill Work-Integrated Education (WIE) as required by the student's programme, which clashes with the International Summer School schedule.

Will the credits and grades attained at the Summer School be counted towards my GPA and graduation requirements?

Yes, credits and grades attained at the International Summer School will be counted towards your cumulative GPA. They might also contribute towards your graduation requirements, if such are relevant to your programme of study.

Are there any assessments or examinations?

Yes, students shall attend all classes and an examination and fulfill the assessment requirements as stipulated by the subject.

 

Field Trip

Do I need a visa for the field trip to Macau?

Please check with the Public Security Police Force of Macau and make sure that you leave sufficient time to receive the visa before your departure from Hong Kong.

 

Can I join the group directly in Macau?

No. All field trip participants will depart from Hong Kong together.

 

Can I stay behind after the field trip in Macau?

No. You are NOT allowed to stay behind after the field trip.

Can I leave the group during the trip?

No. You are NOT allowed to leave the group during the trip.
