Fundamentals of Accounting & Finance

This one-credit subject provides an accessible and practical introduction to the core principles of accounting and finance. Through interactive face-to-face seminars, real-world examples, and hands-on exercises, students will develop a solid foundation in key concepts and practices.
The objective of this course is to provide students with a clear understanding of fundamental accounting and finance concepts, laying groundwork for further university-level studies in the field.

Upon completion of the subject, students will able to:

  • Identify and explain key accounting principles and terminology;
  • Prepare and analyse basic financial records and statements;
  • Apply accounting methods to track and report financial transactions;
  • Understand the role of accounting in ethical business practices and regulatory compliance;
  • Understand the role of financial system in supporting the real economy;
  • Understand various types of financial instruments;
  • Understand and apply the concepts of time value of money and valuation of financial instruments.

  • In-class quizzes (50%)
  • Class participation (20%)
  • Financial statement preparation assignment (30%)

(In-class quizzes/ assignments and attendance will be taken into consideration to the final grades. Students are strongly advised to attend all classes.)
