SKL-CRCC PhD Student Shaofeng DU Secures Prestigious 2025 NSFC Youth Student Basic Research Project Grant

22 Dec 2025

We are thrilled to announce that Mr Shaofeng DU, a PhD student CEE, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Youth Student Basic Research Project Grant.

Mr DU is supervised by Prof. Huan-Feng DUAN, Associate Director of SKL-CRCC. This highly competitive grant is specifically designed to foster independent scientific research capabilities in exceptional PhD students, providing RMB 300,000 over two years to support their research endeavors.

Pioneering Research in Semiconductor Coating

Mr DU’s award-winning project is titled “Instability Mechanisms and Active Control of Viscoelastic Liquid Films on Oscillating Substrates.”

His work tackles critical, unresolved challenges in the semiconductor coating industry:

  • The Problem: Current fluid dynamics theories fall short when attempting to control the stability of viscoelastic liquid films during high-tech manufacturing processes.
  • The Solution: Utilizing advanced theoretical and numerical methods, Mr Du’s research investigates how oscillatory modulation impacts these films.
  • The Impact: The findings are expected to establish a breakthrough theoretical foundation to significantly enhance high-performance coating processes.

Celebrating Academic Excellence

This recognition highlights Mr DU’s outstanding potential as an emerging researcher and underscores the world-class mentorship and research environment fostered here at SKL-CRCC under leaders like Prof. DUAN.

The entire SKL-CRCC community extends our warmest congratulations to Mr Shaofeng DU and Prof. DUAN on this remarkable achievement! We look forward to seeing the impactful contributions this research will bring to the scientific and industrial communities.
