CONFERENCES/SEMINARS/WORKSHOPS
Professor Kaye Chon and Professor Cathy Hsu attended the 2021 Annual ICHRIE Conference & Marketplace on 26-30 July. Professor Chon joined the APacCHRIE Regional Programming - "Heart to Heart Talk" with Dr Kwon-ping Ho, Founder and Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings and Laguna Resorts and Hotels. Professor Hsu participated in an online panel discussion entitled "The Future in Education and Research".
Under the Internationalisation@Home initiative, the SHTM's Food and Wine Academy organised several online workshops, including the following:
  • Ms Tersina Shieh, wine maker/educator, introduced Cap Classique wines, premium South African sparkling wines, in a masterclass entitled "Cap Classique, South African Champagne" on 2 September 2021. She also introduced Pinotage, a grape unique to South Africa, in a masterclass entitled "Understanding Pinotage, the Grape Wine Master Class" on 5 October 2021.
  • On 17-24 September 2021, five popular local craft beers were introduced by Mr Tom Turner, Head Brewer at Black Kite Brewery; Mr Chris Wong, Founder of Heroes Beer Co. and General Manager of Carbon Brews; Mr Eshan Arif, Head of Business Development, and Ms Karolyn Ma, General Manager of Hong Kong Beer Co.; and Mr Henry Wu, Founder of Tai Wai Brewery.
  • Mr Gareth Punton, General Manager of Continental Wines/Victoria Wines Distributor and Ms Rachael Armstrong, Global Business Development Manager of Antipodes Water New Zealand provided a unique tasting experience at a workshop "Elevating the Dining Experience with Antipodes Water" on 28 October 2021.
Professor Brian King delivered an online keynote speech entitled "How Might Asian Tourism Leaders Navigate a Disrupted Industry? Re-Imagining the Landscape" at the Global Tourism Conference 2021 on 7-9 September.
Professor Kaye Chon gave a speech entitled "Hospitality and Tourism Education and Research: The Past, Present and Future" at the APacCHRIE Webinar on 10 September 2021.
The School participated in the Hospitality Graduate School Virtual Fair organised by the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, University of Houston on 17 September 2021.
Professor Haiyan Song presented additional adjustments to previous scenario visitor forecasts for destinations within the Asia Pacific region at the PATA webinar "PATA Visitor Forecast Updates - Recovery Paths for Asia" on 21 September 2021.
Professor Brian King participated in an online panel discussion at the GREEN Talk "Reimagining HK as a Green Destination" organised by GREEN Hospitality on 27 September 2021.
Professor King was also invited to attend the 2021 UGC Teaching Award presentation ceremony hosted by the University Grants Committee on 28 September.
Professor Kaye Chon and Professor Dimitrios Buhalis attended the virtual QS Subject Focus Summit - Hospitality and Leisure Management hosted by Prince of Songkla University in Thailand, and Taylor's University in Malaysia on 5-7 October 2021. Professor Chon delivered a keynote speech entitled "Innovation and Leadership in Hospitality and Tourism Education". Professor Buhalis spoke on the topic "Technology in Tourism: From Information Communication Technologies to eTourism and Smart Tourism Towards Ambient Intelligence Tourism".
