ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
The SHTM's teaching and research hotel, Hotel ICON, ranked second in the categories "Best Hotel 2019" and "Best Luxury Hotel 2019" in the 2019 Travel Hacker Awards, organised by travel site KAYAK. The awards separate "the best" from "good" accommodation properties based on guest reviews.
Mr Chen Cheuk Chun, Gerald and Miss Lam Wing Laam, Cathy, final year students in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, Miss Cheung Ka Man, Sarah and Miss Pang Ka Wai, Pat, final year students in the BSc(Hons) in Tourism and Events Management programme, were selected as Young SKAL 2019, and were also recipients of the Rudy Choy Educational Fund Scholarship. The award was presented to the students at the Rudy Choy Educational Fund Scholarship Presentation Ceremony on Young SKAL Day, 30 October 2019.
Four SHTM graduates received awards at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's 25th Congregation (SHTM) on 5 November 2019.

Miss Chan Mei Ki, Miki received the Best Undergraduate Honours Thesis Award 2018/19 for her thesis entitled "Effective Approach to Encourage Hotel Guest Voluntary Pro-Environmental Behaviour: Standardized Approach vs. Normative Appeal vs Incentive Approach".
Mr Lam Yik Hei received the Best MSc Dissertation Award 2018/19 for his thesis entitled "How Content Customization in Mobile Marketing Does Influence Tourists' Intentions to Participate in Hong Kong's Eco-tourism?"
Dr Li Lin received the Best D.HTM Thesis Award 2018/19 for his thesis entitled "Research on the Chinese Intentions to Travel in the Context of Social Networks".
Dr Qiu Tianran, Richard received the Best Ph.D. Thesis Award 2018/19 for his thesis entitled "Discrete Choice Models for Tourism Destination Choice: Integrating the Role of Past Travel Experience".
Mr Jonathan Sutton was identified as on the Top 100 Leaders in Education by The Global Forum for Education and Learning in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 16-18 December 2019.
Miss Megan Jacques and Miss Jules Jeong, students in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, each received a 2019 Club Managers' Association Scholarship. The scholarship will provide funding for them to attend the CMAA 93rd World Conference and Club Business Expo in Grapevine, Texas, USA on 8-12 February 2020.
Professor Cathy Hsu, Dr Barry Mak and SHTM alumni Mr Jason Wong and Dr Priscilla Poon have been appointed members of the Travel Industry Authority for a period of two years with effect from 1 January 2020.
Two SHTM faculty members were recently rewarded for excellent performance in their fields.

Dr Pearl Lin received an SHTM Teaching Excellence Award for her impressive effort in integrating theoretical and practical approaches in each of her courses, and for inspiring students in their learning and career development.
Dr Ksenia Kirillova, who has authored and co-authored 24 refereed articles in high impact journals, received an SHTM Research Excellence Award in recognition of her contribution to the enhancement of research excellence at the School.
