ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
The SHTM is ranked No. 1 in the Hospitality and Tourism Management category of ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2019, the third year in a row it has achieved that feat. This ranking by one of the world's most respected sources confirms the School's outstanding reputation and its commitment to global excellence in hospitality and tourism education and research.
Mr Chen Cheuk-chun, Gerald, a Year 3 student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, earned Dean's List honors for Spring 2019 at Cornell University. He was one of the Kwok Hospitality Award recipients who had the chance to pursue their studies at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration in the USA for one semester.
Dr Ada Lo received the Best Paper Award for her paper entitled "Effects of Customers' Experience in Engaging in Hotel's CSR Activities on Brand Relationship Quality and Behavioral Intentions" at the 4th International Conference on Organization & Management cum 6th International Conference CSR, Ethics, Governance and Sustainability in Abu Dhabi, UAE on 12-13 June 2019.
SHTM staff members had considerable success in obtaining major publicly funded competitive research grants this year. The General Research Fund of the Research Grants Council (RGC) will provide funding for Dr Basak Denizci Guillet's project "The Joint Influence of the Timing and Framing of an Upselling Message on Consumer Perceptions: The Roles of Construal and Reactance", Dr Kam Hung's project "From Luxury Goods to Luxury Service: Understanding Experiential Luxury Consumption among Chinese Travelers in Hong Kong", Dr Jinsoo Lee's project "Exploring the Process of Creating Value Propositions for Exhibition Service Innovation in Service-Dominant Logic", Dr Sangwon Park's project "Labor Productivity and Destination Competitiveness", Dr Ksenia Kirillova's project "Consumer Resistance in Tourism: Moral Triggers, Destination Image, and Mitigating Strategies" and Dr Mehmet Koseoglu's project "Coopetition Strategies for Competitive Intelligence Practices: Evidence from Full-Service Hotels in Hong Kong".
The School received a generous donation from Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) for supporting SHTM's student development and for further enhancing the integration of the SHTM and Hotel ICON in the advancement of hospitality education and industry development. This benefaction demonstrates the industry's deep commitment in furthering the sector's development through education.
Mr Joey Wu received the Excellent Presentation award based on his paper entitled "Online Collaborative Learning of a Mixed Team: A Case Study of Hotel and Tourism Students from Varied Education Backgrounds" at the 3rd International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology in Nagoya, Japan on 22-25 July 2019.
