Dr Chloe Lau presented a co-authored paper entitled "Exploring the Trustworthy Information Source for Chinese Tourists Travelling to Pacific SIDS" at the 171st IIER International Conference on Advances in Business Management and Information Technology in Auckland, New Zealand on 5-6 July 2018.
Dr Wantanee Suntikul was invited to speak at the International Forum-Festival 'Silk Road Tourism Week' in the Republic of Buryatia, Russia on 17-22 July 2018.
Professor Brian King attended the soft launch of the School for the Visitor Economy at Victoria University in Australia and participated in an Industry Roundtable discussion on 6 August 2018.
Dr Ksenia Kirillova and Dr Stephen Pratt attended the 7th International Tourism Studies Association Biennial Conference in Pretoria, South Africa on 6-10 August 2018.
The SHTM co-hosted the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition on 20-23 August 2018. This major event celebrated its 10th anniversary, with a record entry of over 2,000 competitors from around the world. The event involved spirit and wine tastings. A unique Asian food and wine pairing component was held on SHTM's premises. This is the fourth year in which the School has provided support for this amazing event and our enthusiastic students have been able to interact with world-class Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, world-class multicultural VIP judges and award-winning bartenders.
Professor Sam Kim was invited to give a talk entitled "MICE Education: From Classroom to Actual Conference Organization" at the 1st International MICE Conference and Forum in Bangkok, Thailand on 29-30 August 2018.
Professor Haiyan Song took part in a panel session entitled "Beyond the Vineyard", giving a talk entitled "Effects of Terrorist Attacks on Tourist Flows to France: Is Wine Tourism a Substitute?" at the 3rd UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism in Chisinau, Moldova on 6-7 September 2018.
Dr Vincent Tung presented a co-authored paper entitled "Measuring Positive and Negative Tourist Stereotypes" at the 2018 TTRA Canada Chapter Annual Conference in Halifax, Canada on 26-28 September.
Professor Cathy Hsu gave a talk entitled "Hospitality and Tourism Education: Future Directions" at the Global Overseas Chinese Hospitality and Tourism Industry-Academic Cooperation Forum and International Academic Conference in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on 27-28 September 2018.
Professor Kaye Chon delivered a keynote speech at the Gyeongju Hwabaek Forum in Busan, Korea on 2 October 2018.
Professor Hanqin Qiu, Dr Basak Denizci Guillet, Dr Mehmet Koseoglu and Dr Pearl Lin attended the Global Conference on Business, Hospitality and Tourism Research in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on 2-5 October 2018. Professor Qiu delivered a keynote speech entitled "How to Educate the Future Talents for Hospitality Industry during Digital Era". Dr Denizci Guillet was invited to give a talk entitled "Revenue Management: What Every Hospitality Industry Professional Needs to Know". Dr Denizci Guillet and Dr Lin participated in a panel session entitled "Path to Promotion and Tenure". Dr Lin chaired a concurrent session entitled "Hospitality & Tourism". Dr Koseoglu chaired a concurrent session entitled "Management, Accounting, & Economics", and presented a co-authored paper entitled "Intellectual Structure in Hospitality and Tourism Performance Measurement".
Professor Brian King delivered a keynote speech entitled "The Evolving Integrated Resort: Opportunities & Prospects for Sri Lanka and the Region" at the Tourism Leaders' Summit and the International Tourism Research Conference in Sri Lanka on 4-5 October 2018.
Professor Sam Kim and Ph.D. students Ms Serene Tse, Ms Bella Vongvisitsin and Mr Antony Wong attended the 2018 International Convention on Technology MICE Tourism Conference in Daejeon, Korea on 5-6 October. Professor Kim delivered a keynote speech entitled "MICE industry in Hong Kong". Ms Tse presented a paper entitled "MICE and Tourism Industry in Singapore". Ms Vongvisitsin presented a paper entitled "MICE and Tourism Industry in Thailand". Mr Wong presented a paper entitled "MICE and Tourism industry in Macau".
Professor Bob McKercher delivered a public talk on "Trends in Chinese Tourism" at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia on 11 October 2018.
A number of SHTM staff members and students, including Professor Cathy Hsu, Professor Rob Law, Dr Catherine Cheung, Dr Ada Lo, Dr Daniel Leung, Dr Loretta Pang and Mr Dave Chan and Ph.D. students Mr Richard Hrankai, Ms Vicky Leung and Ms Kimberly Peterkin, attended the Hotel ICON X IDEAS Leadership Forum 'HOTECH 2020: Redefining Sales, Marketing and Revenue in Asia' held at Hotel ICON, Hong Kong on 11 October 2018.
Dr Honggen Xiao presented a paper entitled "A Community-of-learning in the Making: Facilitating a Subject on 'Trends and Issues in Global Tourism' in a Master of Science programme in Hong Kong" at the 37th ISTTE Annual Conference in New York, USA on 17-19 October 2018.
Professor Kaye Chon, Dr Catherine Cheung, Dr Sangwon Park and Dr Honggen Xiao attended the 12th UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook in Guilin, China on 25-27 October 2018. Professor Chon delivered a keynote speech entitled "Human Capital Development for Hospitality and Tourism". Dr Cheung gave a talk entitled "Women Leadership in Hospitality and Tourism". Dr Park delivered a speech entitled "Artificial Intelligence in Future Tourism". Dr Xiao moderated a panel session entitled "Human Capital Development Towards 2030".
