ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Dr Lisa Gao and Mr Danny Chung, a Year 4 student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, received the Annual ICHRIE Research Reports Award for their paper "Consumer Perceived CSR from Social Media: The Case of Hong Kong Hotel Firms" at the 2018 Annual ICHRIE Summer Conference and Marketplace in Palm Springs, California on 25-27 July.
Under the guidance of Dr Eric Chan, Mr Hao-tian Zheng, a Year 3 student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, and three PolyU students, Ms Zhihan Wang, Ms Yunru Ma and Mr Binhao Chen, won the "World's Best Top10 Case Award" for their case study "Ctrip: Integrating Travels from Asia to the World" at the Fourth Academy of Asian Business International Conference in Seoul, Korea on 10-11 August 2018.
Two SHTM faculty members were recently rewarded for excellent performance in their fields.

Dr Lorenzo Masiero received an SHTM Teaching Excellence Award for his impressive effort to enhance the experience of student learning by adopting an interactive teaching approach and providing qualitative feedback to the students
Dr Vincent Tung, who has published 21 refereed articles, 11 as lead author and one as sole author, since joining the SHTM, received an SHTM Research Excellence Award.
Ms Anastasia Acyntia and Mr Jonathan Keh, MSc students in the International Hospitality Management programme, and Ms Yinghui Liang, an MSc student in the International Wine Management programme, received the Drore Scholarship at the presentation ceremony on 20 September 2018. The scholarship was presented by Dr Fuhua Song, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zhejiang Drore Technology Co., Ltd, who helped to set up the scholarship with a generous donation in support of the School's efforts to advance hospitality and tourism education.
Ms Cheung Tan-mei, Tammy, an MSc student in International Tourism and Convention Management programme, Ms Chiu Sin-ting, Cindy, an MSc student in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, and their team 'Trip Adventure', under the guidance of Dr Ada Lo, Dr Chloe Lau and Dr Alan Wong, won the Championship in the RAK Innovation Challenge competition on World Tourism Day in Dubai on 27 September 2018 for their proposal for an adventure sport event to be included in the Ras Al Khaimah tourism strategy.
The SHTM celebrates the annual World Tourism Day by organising its own Dress Orange Day. This year, the event was held on 28 September. SHTM's staff and students wore orange clothing, the School's colour, to show their support and demonstrate unity. The staff and students were invited to take part in a "Best Dressed" competition. The winners were Professor Brian King and Ms Cecilia Ngwira.
Dr Mehmet Koseoglu received the Best Paper Award for his co-authored paper entitled "Intellectual Structure in Hospitality and Tourism Performance Measurement" at the Global Conference on Business, Hospitality and Tourism Research in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on 2-5 October 2018.
Led by their instructor Dr Jinsoo Lee, a team of four SHTM students from the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management and BSc (Hons) in Convention and Event Management programmes - Mr Li Chun Bong Martin, Miss Cheung Ching Man, Nicole, Miss Chow Hiu Wai, Hilda, and Miss Lee Sin Kwan, Sophia - won the 2nd runner-up at the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations Asia MICE Youth Challenge 2018 in Korea on 22-25 October 2018.
