SHTM Hosted a Visit from Mr Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation
The SHTM was honoured to host a visit from Mr Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), on 22 October 2018. During his visit, Professor Kaye Chon, SHTM Dean and Chair Professor and Walter Kwok Foundation Professor in International Hospitality Management, presented Mr Pololikashvili with an overview of the School and took him on a tour of the SHTM's teaching and research facilities, including Hotel ICON.

Mr Pololikashvili took office as UNWTO Secretary General on 1 January 2018, after being elected by the 22nd Session of the UNWTO General Assembly. During his first visit to the SHTM, the Secretary General met with Professor Haiyan Song, SHTM Associate Dean and Chair Professor and Mr and Mrs Chan Chak Fu Professor in International Tourism; and other faculty members. The visit allowed representatives of the two institutions to explore future collaborations and to forge a closer partnership.

The Secretary was accompanied by an UNWTO delegation comprising Mr Zhu Shanzhong, Executive Director; Mr Xu Jing, Director, Regional Department for Asia and the Pacific; Mr Zhou Rui, Special Advisor on Education to the Secretary General; Mr Musallim Afandiyev, Deputy Chief of Cabinet, Administration and Finance, Office of the Secretary General; Ms Natalia Bayona, Senior Expert on Innovation and Digital Transformation, Office of the Secretary General; Mr Peter Janech, Department Officer, Regional Department for Europe; and Ms Karen Tam, Secretary.
