Professor Haiyan Song shared his insights on "The Greater Bay Area - Visionary Collaboration in the Making" in the panel session titled "Regional Collaboration? China Perspective" at the Global Tourism Economy Forum 2017 in Macau on 16-17 October.
The PATA Hong Kong PolyU SHTM Student Chapter Reception cum Mini Seminars was held on 3 November 2017 at the SHTM. Initiated by Professor Kaye Chon, the event provided a valuable networking opportunity for PATA members and members of the Student Chapter in Hong Kong. The seminars featured Dr Basak Denizci Guillet, who spoke on the topic "Revenue Management" and Dr Markus Schuckert whose speech covered "Trends in Social Media Marketing". With keen participation by members, the event was a successful kick off for more activities to come.
Professor Kaye Chon spoke on "Leadership Vision: Future Trends in Management" at the ISU Leadership Vision: Future Trends in Management Symposium in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on 4-5 November 2017.
Professor Chon delivered mini lectures on the "Global Hospitality & Tourism Industry and Your Future" in Macau and Thailand on 6 and 12 November 2017, respectively.
Professor Brian King participated in a plenary panel session on "National versus Global Accreditation - the Challenges, the Dilemmas and the Future" at the THE-ICE 11th International Panel of Experts (IPoE) Forum in Melbourne, Australia on 13-16 November 2017.
Professor Haiyan Song, Professor Cathy Hsu and Dr Honggen Xiao attended the Tourism Tribune China Tourism Research Annual Conference 2017 in Beijing, China on 16-19 November. Professor Song spoke in a panel discussion session on "Tourism Public Service and Management". Professor Hsu delivered a keynote speech on "Research on Chinese Tourists: An Illustration of Methodologies". Dr Xiao presented a paper entitled "(Auto)Ethnography in Hospitality and Tourism Studies".
Dr Tony Tse spoke on "Embracing Change and Innovation" at the Connexus Travel Cocktail Reception and Forum held at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong on 20 November 2017.
Professor Kaye Chon delivered a speech on "International Tourism and Hospitality Education Experiences - The Case of Hong Kong PolyU" at the 1st National Conference of Tourism Colleges and Institutes in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 26-28 November 2017.
Professor Brian King and Dr Sangwon Park attended the ACTE Education Forum - Hong Kong 2017 in Hong Kong on 28 November. Professor King delivered an opening remark. Dr Park participated in a panel session on "Artificial Intelligence - Changing the Way We Travel".
Professor Cathy Hsu participated in a panel session on "Gracious Hospitality and Tourism: Experiences and Cultures" at the Gracious Hospitality and Tourism International Conference 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand on 29 November - 1 December.
Professor Kaye Chon delivered a speech on "Hospitality and Tourism Education - The Experience of Hong Kong PolyU" at the conference of China Tourism Education Association and International Forum on Tourism Education in Guangzhou, China on 1 December 2017.
Dr Pearl Lin attended the 1st Health-Oriented Tourism Conference in Beppu, Japan on 2-4 December 2017.
Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song, Professor Cathy Hsu, Dr Catherine Cheung, Dr Sam Kim, Dr Mimi Li, Dr Sangwon Park and Dr Ksenia Kirillova attended the TTRA Asia Pacific Chapter 5th Annual Conference hosted at the SHTM on 6-8 December 2017. Professor Chon delivered the opening speech. Professor Hsu presented a keynote entitled "Social Sustainability: Resident Sentiment of Tourism". Dr Kim presented a co-authored paper entitled "Destination Image is Stable or Fluctuating?". Dr Park presented a paper entitled "The Effect of Loneliness on Trip Satisfaction: The Mediating Role of Social Media Use". Dr Kirillova presented a co-authored paper entitled "Tourism Mobilities and Its Factors Trough Times: A Comparative Inquiry of Chinese, Russian, and US Societies".
Dr Honggen Xiao, Dr Mehmet Koseoglu and Ms Erin Shih attended the 4th World Research Summit for Tourism and Hospitality & 2nd USA-China Tourism Research Summit and Industry Dialogue in Orlando, USA on 8-11 December 2017. Dr Xiao presented a paper entitled "Contemporary China Tourism: Issues, Perspectives, and Implications". Dr Koseoglu presented a co-authored paper entitled "Social Structure of Strategic Management Research with Hospitality Industry Focus". Ms Shih presented a co-authored paper entitled "The Cost of Food Safety in a Catering Kitchen".
Dr Karin Weber participated in a panel session on "Research and Grants" at the 4th International Conference on Events in Orlando, USA on 12-14 December 2017.
Dr Barry Mak was distinguished guest at the 3rd International Scientific-Business Conference - LIMEN 2017 in Belgrade, Serbia on 14 December. Dr Mak delivered a keynote entitled "Management of Micro-Sized Travel Agencies".
Professor Kaye Chon delivered a lecture on "Innovations and Leadership in Hospitality Industry" for hoteliers at the Crowne Plaza Shenzhen Longgang City Centre in Shenzhen, China on 20 December 2017.
