SHTM Building Naming
The SHTM premises has been named after a pioneering Hong Kong hotelier, the late Mr Chan Chak-fu, and his wife Mrs Esther Chan Wong Chi-lan, in appreciation of their significant contributions to hospitality and tourism management education at PolyU.

From the 1950s to the 1980s, Mr Chan Chak-fu emerged from the Hong Kong hotel market to build a global empire. He contributed tremendously to grooming local talents and advancing the international standard and image of hospitality in Hong Kong.
11th CHINA TOURISM FORUM Successfully Organised with Alibaba's Fliggy

Hosted by the SHTM and organised by Fliggy, the Alibaba Group's travel brand, the 11th CHINA TOURISM FORUM: Innovations in Hospitality and Tourism Practices was held on 14-16 November 2017 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China.


11th UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook Held in Guilin

The 11th UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook was held in Guilin, China on 10-12 October 2017. Jointly organised by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the forum was co-organised by the Guilin Municipal People's Government in collaboration with the SHTM.
2017 Hong Kong PolyU Winter School®


The Hong Kong PolyU Winter School®, an Executive Development Programme in Hospitality, was held at the SHTM from 4 to 16 December. Co-organised by the SHTM, Hong Kong Hotels Association and PolyU's Institute for Entrepreneurship, and sponsored by the PATA Foundation and Hotel ICON, the programme attracted a host of senior industry executives.
SHTM to Relaunch Online MicroMasters in International Hospitality Management

Responding to popular demand, the SHTM will relaunch its MicroMasters in International Hospitality Management programme in 2018, providing more opportunities for those who were eager to join the programme last time but were unable to.


Applications for SHTM Master's and Doctoral Programmes Now Open


The rapidly growing hotel and tourism sectors are experiencing a tidal wave of change. More than ever before, industry professionals must lead and manage under many circumstances. Of crucial importance are the skills required to identify and capitalise on opportunities and to respond effectively and efficiently to challenges.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION


Professor Brian King received the "Hall of Fame for Outstanding Individual Support of THE-ICE and THE-ICE IPoE Forum" award at the THE-ICE 11th International Panel of Experts (IPoE) Forum in Melbourne, Australia on 13-16 November 2017.



SHTM VISITORS


1 November - Naresuan University, Thailand

Led by Mr Phisunt Tinakhat, Deputy Director for Administration (Acting) and Program Chair of Tourism Business Management, International College, Naresuan University, a group of 27 students and lecturer visited the SHTM and its facilities.

Professor Haiyan Song shared his insights on "The Greater Bay Area - Visionary Collaboration in the Making" in the panel session titled "Regional Collaboration? China Perspective" at the Global Tourism Economy Forum 2017 in Macau on 16-17 October.
