Dr George Liu attended the 2nd International Academic Salon of Convention and Events in Zhuhai, China on 18-19 July 2015.
Professor Hanqin Qiu, Dr Barry Mak, Dr Mimi Li, Dr Pearl Lin, Dr Karin Weber, Dr Qu Xiao and postgraduate student Ms Daisy Fan attended the 2015 Annual ICHRIE Summer Conference and Marketplace in Orlando, USA on 29-31 July. Professor Qiu and Ms Fan presented a co-authored paper entitled "A Scale Development for Social Sustainability of Tourism". Dr Mak presented a co-authored paper entitled "A Model of Adverse Selection in Package Tours". Dr Li presented a co-authored paper entitled "Children on Vacation: A Netnography Inquiry". Dr Weber presented co-authored papers entitled "Social Distinctiveness and Social Presence Effects in a Service Failure Situation" and "Social Identity-Based Discrimination in Tourist Retail Settings and its Effect on Destination Image and Revisit Intention". Dr Xiao presented a co-authored paper entitled "Examining the Effects of Market Orientation on Hotel Performance".
Dr Karin Weber attended the 2015 MPI World Education Congress in San Francisco, USA on 1-4 August.
Professor Kaye Chon attended the 21st UNWTO General Assembly in Medellín, Colombia on 12-17 September 2015, where he spoke at a special panel of UNWTO Ulysses Prize laureates. The topic of discussion was "Tourism Today and Tomorrow", with panel members including Professor Donald Hawkins of George Washington University, 1st laureate; Professor David Airey of the University of Surrey, 4th laureate; Professor Kaye Chon, 8th laureate; and Professor Eduardo Fayos-Solà of the University of Valencia, 11th Laureate (2014).
Professor Brian King presented a paper entitled "Tourism Directions in Asia Pacific Cities: From Melbourne (Australia) to Hong Kong (China)" at the 23rd Anniversary Symposium of the Busan Development Institute in Busan, Korea on 17 September 2015.
Professor Kaye Chon was invited to speak at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, one of the most prestigious universities in Ecuador, on 19 September 2015. On the same day, Dean Chon and Dean Mauricio Cepeda of the College of Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Tourism arranged to sign an agreement for student exchange and research collaboration.
Professor Chon delivered a lecture entitled "Innovations and Leadership in Hospitality" to students at the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, Peru, on 23 September 2015.

Professor Chon was invited by the Jinwen University of Science and Technology in Taipei, Taiwan to give a speech on the topic "Leading the Way: The Story of SHTM and Hotel ICON" on 1 October 2015. On 2 October, he delivered a keynote presentation entitled "Tourism and Hospitality Industry Today: Current Trends, New Challenges and Future Prospects" to about 200 participants in the Tourism Elite Programme organised by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau. The Programme aims to develop capacity building in higher-level talent in the tourism industry.
Dr Markus Schuckert presented a co-authored paper entitled "MOOCs, China and the West: First Experiences with MOOC Production and Delivery Out of Hong Kong" at Learning with MOOCs II - 2015 in New York, USA on 2-3 October.
Professor Haiyan Song was an invited keynote speaker on "Future Visitor Demand in the Asia Pacific" at the 17th Leisure, Recreation, and Tourism Research Symposium in Taichung, Taiwan on 3-4 October 2015.
Dr Barry Mak was an invited keynote speaker on the topic "Does ISO9001 Certification Matter to Travel Agencies in Africa?" at the 1st National Conference on ISO & TQM in Livingstone, Zambia on 7-9 October 2015.
Professor Hanqin Qiu and Dr Pearl Lin attended the 12th Asian Business Research Conference in Bangkok, Thailand on 8-9 October 2015. Professor Qiu presented a paper entitled "Experiential Learning in Hospitality Education: A Case Study of the Service Learning Subject".
Professor Bob McKercher was a panelist commenting on the Internet and high quality experiences at the International Cultural Creative Holiday Destination Forum in Zhoushan, China on 12-16 October 2015.
Professor Kaye Chon and Professor Brian King attended the EuroCHRIE 2015 in Manchester, UK on 15-17 October. Professor Chon delivered a keynote speech. Professor King spoke about "Hotel ICON as a Living Laboratory for Developing Industry Case Studies" at the Career Academy Workshop: Developing, writing and using case studies for educational purposes.
Professor Haiyan Song was an invited keynote speaker on "Smart Tourism System: Current Trends and Future Prospects" at the 2015 International Smart Tourism Conference in Hangzhou, China on 17-18 October.
Professor Song, Professor Brian King, Dr Denis Tolkach, Dr Vincent Tung, Dr Honggen Xiao and Mr Tom Bu attended the 9th UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook in Guilin, China on 19-21 October 2015. Professor Song delivered opening remarks and a keynote presentation on the "PolyU TSI/TSQI and Experiential Economy". Professor King chaired the panel session on "Destination Marketing - Focusing on Tourism Experience" and delivered a keynote speech on "Enhancing the Tourism Experience - Theory and Practice". Dr Xiao chaired the panel session on "Heritage Tourism and Cultural Experience".
Professor Bob McKercher presented a paper entitled "Sustainable Development Principles and Practices" at the Green Tourism Forum in Hualien, Taiwan on 21-23 October 2015.
Professor Kaye Chon gave a speech on "The Era of MICE Convergence" at the "MICE Table Talk" session of the 16th World Knowledge Forum in Seoul, Korea on 20-22 October 2015.
Professor Haiyan Song and Dr Mimi Li attended the Tourism Tribune Annual Conference on China Tourism Research in Beijing, China on 22-25 October 2015. Professor Song was an invited keynote speaker on the topic, "Research and Development of Tourism Satellite Account - A Case of the Guangdong Province".
