ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Miss Cathy Lam, a final-year student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, and her teammates from other hospitality schools, won second place in the Dorchester Collection's Challenge at the Young Hoteliers Summit held at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland, on 16-18 March 2015. Participants were tasked to design a hotel organisational network that embraces disruption by breaking down silos, promoting communication and collaboration, and empowering the most connected individuals.
Professor Bob McKercher was elected President of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism (IAST) in April 2015.
Dr Barry Mak received the Best Paper Award for his paper entitled "Travel Agencies' Perception of ISO 9000 Certification in China and Hong Kong: Lesson for the Kenya Tourism Industry" at the 19th International Conference on ISO & TQM in Nairobi, Kenya on 7-9 April 2015.
Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP), the premier global professional association serving members in hospitality careers, donated US$5,000 to establish scholarships for SHTM students. Named after Mr Clarence Shun Wah, a much respected hospitality professional, the scholarship will provide more learning opportunity for SHTM students and will also further the School's effort in nurturing young talents for the hospitality and tourism industry.

An Initiation Ceremony for the PolyU Chapter of Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) took place at the SHTM on 8 May 2015. Led by Miss Luna Wang, President of the Chapter, 24 SHTM students became ESD members in testimony to their outstanding academic achievements. Mr James Lu, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Hotels Association, addressed the Ceremony and shared with the new ESD members his valuable experience in the hospitality industry.

Two SHTM students, Miss Ng Yu-sum, Agnes, Year One in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, and Miss Lam Ling-shan, Esther, Year Two in the BSc(Hons) in Convention and Event Management programme, participated in the Hong Kong International Culinary Classic 2015 Competition under the category "Pastry: Practical (Under 25 Apprentists) - Young Pastry Chefs Chocolate Coffee Cake" at HOFEX on 8 May, under the guidance of Hotel ICON's Executive Pastry Chef Danny Ho. Miss Ng won a Gold Medal and Miss Lam won a Silver Medal.
Ms Miju Choi, a research student in the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, received a Best Paper Award for her co-authored paper entitled "Trust of Tourists towards Shopping Destinations: Development of a Shopping Destination Trust Scale" at the World Conference on Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Research (WHTER) and International Convention and Expo Summit (ICES) 2015 in Seoul, Korea on 20-22 May.

At the same conference, Ms Ja-young Choe, Ph.D. student, received an Excellent Paper Award for her co-authored paper entitled "Comparison of Brand Equity Models of Competitive Convention Cities in East Asia".
