Dean Kaye Chon Conferred Endowed Professorship

The Second Inauguration of Endowed Professorships at PolyU was held on 13 May 2015 at the Jockey Club Auditorium to pay tribute to distinguished scholars for their outstanding academic achievements and significant contributions to the community, and to allow the community to demonstrate support for and give recognition to PolyU for its research excellence.

Presided over by the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the University, Mr Chan Tze-ching, the ceremony saw the presentation of six Endowed Professorships, bringing the total number of Endowed Professorships established by PolyU to 14, alongside two named professorships conferred by the then Hong Kong Polytechnic.

Endowed by the Walter Kwok Foundation, Dean Kaye Chon was conferred the title Walter Kwok Foundation Professor in International Hospitality Management.

With the generous support of the Walter Kwok Foundation, the Endowed Professorship will enable Dean Chon to engage in more research with an Asian perspective, in knowledge creation and in the development of best practices, thus facilitating the sustainable development of the hospitality and tourism industry. With the conferment, Dean Chon is empowered more than ever to steer the SHTM to not only ride the Asian Wave but also to lead it in educational and research excellence.

Professor Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President, noted that through the Endowed Professorship scheme PolyU has established valuable partnerships between its scholars and supporters in advancing the frontiers of knowledge and technology for the benefit of mankind. Building on its heritage, PolyU is determined to push back boundaries, uncover knowledge and strive for innovation, as manifested in the University's new brand promise of "Opening Minds. Shaping the Future".

Established in 2012, the Endowed Professorship Scheme provides philanthropists with the unique opportunity to partner with PolyU to advance research and academic activities in a discipline of their choice for the betterment of society. PolyU will continue to nominate internationally acclaimed scholars for the prestigious title to advance research and academic activities for the benefit of the wider community.
