ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Ms Sojin Choi, student in the Master of Science in International Hospitality Management programme, was announced winner of the Hyatt Student Prize 2014 at the competition's final staged at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme on 1 December. The Prize is a prestigious award launched by Hyatt Hotels and Resorts in 2008 to identify the most talented student in the hospitality industry. Ms Choi received a Baccarat crystal trophy and an invitation to fly to Chicago in the United States to experience the working environment of the Hyatt Hotels and Resorts head office for a week.


Professor Kaye Chon was honoured with the 2014 Robinson Alumni Global Business Award from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University for his distinguished career achievement and community service. The award was conferred on 13 November at the university's Buckhead Center.
Three SHTM undergraduate students in the BSc in Hotel Management programme, Ms Carman Kwok Ka-man, Ms Candy Lai Yee-mei and Ms Shelene Wong Yat-shan, have received Rudy Choy Educational Fund Scholarships. The scholarships were presented at the Young SKAL Day on 29 October 2014 at the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel.
Bistro 1979, the SHTM's training restaurant, was again recognised for its efforts in carbon management at the CarbonCare® Label 2014 Award Ceremony held on 21 October. A total of 29 awardees from various sectors were hailed as successful pioneers in implementing carbon reduction solutions and demonstrating their contributions to community-wide efforts in combating climate change.
Six SHTM students from the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, Ms Michelle Au Yeung, Ms Maisie Cheng, Mr Benjamin Kot, Ms Angel Meng, Ms Chloe Qiu and Ms Shelene Wong, represented the School at the Student Challenge - 2nd Hotel Leaders Network Conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands on 17-19 September 2014. Student representatives from internationally renowned hospitality schools were randomly divided into 5 teams and had to devise a creative and feasible concept for redeveloping the Palace of Justice in Amsterdam as a hotel. Ms Meng's team was chosen as the winning team with their concept "Amsterdam Live: Taste, Breathe, Life Amsterdam" among all five brilliant and creative projects.
Led by SHTM instructor Dr Jinsoo Lee, a team of five students from the BSc(Hons) in Convention and Event Management programme, Mr Chan Yik-ho, Felix, Miss Hong Hiu-hung, Karen, Miss Hung Pui-shan, Alisa, Mr Ma Wai-kwan, Son and Mr Wong Ho-yin, Sam, placed third in the 2014 MICE Destination Marketing Contest in Taipei, Taiwan on 16-18 September 2014. Their project, "Greentival", envisaged a carnival designed to promote Hong Kong as a green MICE destination, raise awareness of green living and promote green business concepts. The School is delighted with their success.
