ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Dr Eerang Park, a 2013 graduate of the Doctor of Hotel and Tourism programme, received a Best Paper Award for her co-authored paper entitled "The Examination of Experience Economy at Hotel Special Events: From the Locals' Perspective" at the Global Events Congress VI in Adelaide, South Australia on 9-11 July 2014.
Dr Yong Chen, a 2012 graduate of the Doctor of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, Dr Markus Schuckert, Professor Haiyan Song and Professor Kaye Chon received the Best Paper Award for their paper entitled "Why Package Tours Fall in Popularity: Evidence from China's Outbound Tourism Market" at the 2014 Global Marketing Conference at Singapore on 15-18 July.
The SHTM received the 2014 International CHRIE Bronze Partner Award at the 2014 Annual ICHRIE Summer Conference and Marketplace in San Diego, USA on 30 July to 1 August.
Dr Gordon Hao and Professor Rob Law have successfully obtained external competitive grants from the National Science Foundation of China and Beijing Natural Science Fund. The titles of the respective research projects are "Concept Mapping Methods and Applications for Smart Destination Marketing from the Perspective of Service-Dominant Logic" and "A Study on Knowledge-Capital Driven Open Innovation Mechanism for Beijing Smart Tourism Management".
Professor Hanqin Qiu has been appointed Visiting Chair Professor at the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China for 3 years from 1 September 2014.
Dr Mimi Li received a research grant from the National Natural Science Foundation of China as Principal Investigator, for a project entitled "Perceiving and Experiencing Urban Recreation Space from Children's Perspectives: An Application of Children's Geographies".
Three SHTM faculty members were recently rewarded for excellent performance in their fields.

Dr George Liu received an SHTM Teaching Excellence Award for his proactive and student-centred philosophy using a wide range of active learning methodologies.
Dr Alice Hon, author and co-author of 17 refereed papers in a variety of prestigious international journals, received an SHTM Research Excellence Award.

Dr Nelson Tsang received an SHTM Service Excellence Award for his dedicated service to professional bodies and active participation in numerous fields, which has enhanced the SHTM's image.
Led by their instructor Dr Jinsoo Lee, a team of five SHTM students from the BSc(Hons) in Convention and Event Management programme, Mr Chan Yik-ho, Felix, Miss Hong Hiu-hung, Karen, Miss Hung Pui-shan, Alisa, Mr Ma Wai-kwan, Son and Mr Wong Ho-yin, Sam, won 3rd place at the 2014 MICE Destination Marketing Contest in Taipei, Taiwan on 16-18 September 2014.
The SHTM celebrates the World Tourism Day annually by organising its own Dress Orange Day. This year, the day was held on 29 September, with SHTM staff and students wearing orange, the School's colour, to show support and demonstrate unity. Dr Pearl Lin and Ms Carol Zhang came with most items in orange on the day and won the "Most Orange Staff" and "Most Orange Student" awards respectively.
