Executive Masters with a Global Focus

Recruitment for the SHTM’s innovative Executive Masters (EM) in Global Hospitality Leadership is underway, with the programme launch set for September 2013. Geared towards high-level executives with at least 10 years’ experience at the management level, the programme will enhance leadership skills, advance decision-making capabilities, update industry knowledge and provide networking opportunities.

The growth of the hospitality industry in the Asia-Pacific region and the number of high-level executives applying to the Master of Science programme provided impetus for the new EM programme. The block-release nature of the programme – with each course offered intensively over two weekends – will allow executives from Hong Kong, mainland China and further afield to attend. Once the programme begins, students will be able to join in any semester.

To maintain a “round table” atmosphere, the target student number is 17. The programme will create a networking environment for management executives, almost like a private club. Emphasis will be placed on peer and student-teacher exchanges, applied consultancy projects, presentations and innovative experiential exercises.

The programme will draw on the expertise of the participating executives and SHTM faculty, and will also feature professors from other PolyU departments. For instance, the Design for Hospitality course will be co-taught by SHTM and School of Design professors.

The SHTM’s ability to provide participants with a global perspective is a major advantage. Drawn from numerous countries around the world, the School’s faculty members have offered participants a range of perspectives. In this globalised industry, a better cultural understanding of those we serve and work with will definitely lead to better decision making and leadership.
