- Seminar on Alumni Sharing

Ms. Nico Liu, Ms. Wincy Yuen and Ms. Carol Chan are intimate apparel alumni currently working at Crystal Martin (Hong Kong) Ltd. They shared their experience in design competition, fashion show preparation and internship with the BA students. They stressed the importance of learning technical knowledge in the intimate apparel industry. They also shared on how they coped with different issues at work and that they enjoyed working at the company.

Mr. Karl Mayer, Manager Director of Innovance Textiles Ltd., talked to the BA students in intimate apparel specialism about the difference between invention and innovation, the R&D process and the Stage Gate Model in R&D.

- Seminar on How to Build Your Own Brand

Mr. Yip Yi Kin, Kelvin, Associate Director, Convoy Financial Services Limited, shared his job experience since he has graduated from PolyU eight years ago. He talked about how he observed the personality of fresh graduates when he interviewed with them, so that the BA students could prepare better for their job interview.

- Core-size Bra Fitting Seminar

Ms. Fanny Ho, former Chief Designer of Triumph International (Hong Kong) Ltd., gave comments on the fitting problems of the students’ first home-made bras and other intimate apparel products such as camisole, panties, baby doll, swimwear, sports bra, seamless bra and etc. The 34B live model also shared her professional and personal comments on the garments. Students learnt a lot and clearly see the differences between good fitting and bad fitting products.

17 - Plus-size Bra Fitting Seminar

Ms. Mandy Ko, Technical Manager – Lingerie of Marks & Spencer (Asia Pacific) Limited shared her substantial experience on plus-size bra fitting and pattern alternation. The intimate apparel students were very excited to have this chance to see closely the bra fitting challenges on a 40G live model. They also learnt the effects of the fabric grain directions and pattern alternation on the results of breast support.

Our alumnus Miss Huang Ying Ying, Cherry talked to the BA students in intimate apparel specialism about quality issue and testing requirement of intimate apparel.

13 - Seminar on Fashion/Lingerie designer

Ms. Christie Ho, Design Director of All Faith (Far East) Co. Ltd., described her own career path from a fashion designer to a lingerie designer to the BA students in intimate apparel specialism. She has designed lingerie for many different global brands. Afterwards, she developed her own brand.

She advised the students to draw more sketches during the development stage and keep them for future use.

Mr. Tommy Fung, Chairman, Mr. Teddy Tang, CEO, Ms. Mani Chang and Mr. Kelvin Leung, from Texco Hook & Eye Tape Ltd., gave a seminar on intimate apparel accessories selection to the BA students in intimate apparel specialism. They gave valuable comments on the students' group presentation of matching hooks and eyes with bras.

13 - Seminar on How to Develop Win-Win Partnership

Ms. Annie Wong, former President of Mast Industries Limited, talked about her global experience in developing good partnerships to the BA students in intimate apparel specialism.

6 - Seminar on Market Situation, Merchandising and Sourcing Update, Design Philosophy and Trend

The BA students in intimate apparel specialism attended the expert seminar given by the American Phil Group at their Cheung Sha Wan office. Mr. Benson Yau, Managing Director, talked on Market Situation. Mr. Angus Fung, Director & General Merchandising Manager, spoke on Merchandising and Sourcing Update. Ms. Jazzy Fung, Head of Design, talked on Design Philosophy and Trend. The students were also given a short briefing on the pattern-making of men's underwear by the company's technician.

4 - Design Mentoring Workshop

The intimate apparel students gained a lot in their design skills from the mentoring sessions. Ms. Christie Ho, Design Director of All Faith (Far East) Co. Ltd., Ms. Jazzy Fung, Chief Designer of American Phil Textiles Ltd., Ms. Winnie Lai, Designer of Top Form Brassiere Mfg. Co. Ltd., Ms. Amelia Wrightson and Ms. Dewi Compost, both Designer of Cerie International Ltd., gave professional comment on each individual design of students. The students could enhance their first outfit design for the prejudging of the PolyU Intimate Apparel Fashion Show.

Mr. Kenneth Wong, Chairman of Hong Kong Intimate Apparel Industries' Association, Ms. Annie Wong, former MAST President, and Mrs. Rita Wong, Managing Director of Cerie International Ltd., also briefed the students on the strong technical, material and facility support provided by the industry and encouraged them to display their creativity in the fashion show.

The students were eager to seek advice from their design mentors.

Miss Clara Li, Manager of Merchandising Department, Clover Group International Ltd., talked about her experience in merchandising to the BA students. She is an alumnus of the BA programme in Intimate Apparel.

Dr. Catherine Chan, President of the Hong Kong Quality Function Deployment Association, gave an expert seminar on the quality function deployment for intimate apparel to the final year BA students in intimate apparel specialism.

13 - Seminar on Shapewear Design
Ms. Ariana Bahrami from Lingerie Product Development of Global City Industrial Ltd. delivered the seminar to the final year BA students in intimate apparel specialism for the subject Fundamental Intimate Apparel. She talked about shapewear design concepts, use of fabric, elastics and trimmings as well as technical problems. She also gave comments to students' group projects on shapewear design.

2 - Seminar on Antimicrobial Technology in Intimate Apparel
Mr. Kevin Ling, Managing Director of Microban International (Asia) Ltd., talked on the topics of antimicrobial benefits, antimicrobial technology and the lab testing for antimicrobial function in the United States. Microban is a global leader in antimicrobial product protection and they work with leading companies in areas of consumer products, apparel and etc. The audience included the Master students in design and the final year BA students in intimate apparel specialism.

Ms. Michelle Rice, Global IAP & SWW Segment Director, Mr. Raymond Leung, Apparel & Textile Research Center Asia Pacific Senior Textile Scientist, and Mr. Anthony Chalkley, Lycra@ 2.0 Technical & Marketing Development Manager, from Invista (HK) Ltd. introduced the technology and measurement of Lycra@ beauty fabric to the BA students in intimate apparel specialism in the class of Functional Intimate Apparel.

27 - Seminar on Introduction to Swimwear
Ms. Juliet Le Feuvre is an expert in swimwear design and development and has worked in Legend Swimwear Factory Ltd. She gave an introduction to the various functions and styling associated to swimwear as well as some tips on designing swimwear as opposed to lingerie/underwear to the BA students in intimate apparel specialism.

14 - Seminar on The Qualitative Access to International Market for Intimate Apparel
This seminar, co-organized by Bureau Veritas Hong Kong Ltd. and the Institute of Intimate Apparel of PolyU, played to a full house. Mr. Julian Wu, Manager, Technical Services - Analytical, and Ms. Anita Thieu, Manager, Technical Consultation - Softlines, gave an overview of the general requirement of underwear in basic chemical regulations, basic quality for an international player as well as the industrial practice in general performance testing for underwear.

Mr. Notes Luk, the Material Sourcing Manager of VF Intimates, conducted an interactive workshop on Sewing and Construction of Bra in the class of BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles.

Ms. Wong Wing Cheuk, Senior Designer of Hop Lun (Hong Kong) Limited, conducted a seminar on Creative Design and Development for Intimate Apparel and was presented a souvenir by Dr. Winnie Yu. She will also hold a series of lectures on Creative Design for Intimate Apparel from April to May 2005.

Mr. Gerald Lau, CEO of Clover Group International Ltd., delivered a seminar on Intimate Apparel Business and was presented a souvenir by Dr. Winnie Yu.

We had the honour to have Mr. Andrew Sia, CEO of ACE Style Intimate Apparel Ltd., to give a talk on A Hub for Intimate Apparel Business in Southern China for the BA (Hons) Fashion and Textiles students.
