Inspiration to help alleviate social issues stems from daily life, regardless of age and background. Yet, to hatch mere imagination into actionable, creative social solutions, requires training and guidance on the skills and mindsets…

The PolyU Design Hatch Awards, organised by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design, is a competition that nurtures the creative potential of secondary school students with diverse interests and aptitudes. More than a design competition, the 2025 edition provides a platform for participants to create innovative designs inspired by the theme: Hong Kong’s Rural Culture, and get a head start on the idea of ‘design’.

Participants submitted design concepts celebrating the traditions, history, and craftsmanship of Hong Kong’s rural communities. Shortlisted students advanced to a two-day Hatch Programme, where they refined their skills through tutorials, lectures, and workshops. Whether it's through landscape and environmental design, graphic design, service design, product design, UIUX/App design, AI or any other medium, the winning projects demonstrate creative solutions that preserve and promote rural heritage.

After half a year of dedication, we present exceptional Hatch Awards projects, illuminating Hong Kong’s rural culture through the innovative lens of secondary school students.
