Delegation from Netherlands visits RCRE Lab

Delegation from Netherlands, a Sterring Committee of Hong Kong Design Centre’s BoDW (Business of Design Week) received a lab tour on 2 December 2022 at Concrete Materials Lab of Research Centre for Resources Engineering towards Carbon Neutrality (RCRE). A lab tour with a theme of low carbon construction materials and energy efficiency in building construction, led by Dr Xuan Donxing, Laboratory Manager.

Delegation from HKJC visits RCRE Lab

Delegation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) visit PolyU campus on 1 December 2022. They took a lab tour at the Concrete Materials Laboratory and met with Ir Prof. POON Chi-sun, Director of RCRE and Head of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). The lab tour was led by Ir Prof. POON and his PhD student, introduced the low carbon architectural products for anti-virus (anti-COVID 19), the foam glass-based lightweight concrete for low carbon MiC, the sustainable permeable concrete for urban drainage and the process of turning concrete waste into low carbon products by carbonation.

RCRE Webinar on Upcycling of Sewage Sludge Ash into Foaming Warm Mix Asphalt Additive for Sustainable Asphalt Pavement Construction

RCRE co-organized a webinar with Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Civil Division on 7 December 2022, inviting Associate Director of RCRE, Dr Leng Zhen to speak on the topic “Upcycling of Sewage Sludge Ash into Foaming Warm Mix Asphalt Additive for Sustainable Asphalt Pavement Construction”.  Dr Leng started the presentation with a brief introduction to the green technologies developed in Hong Kong to recycle various types of wastes, such as reclaimed asphalt pavement, waste tyre rubber, and waste plastics, into pavement, then followed by recent study on converting sewage sludge ash into zeolite-based foaming warm mix asphalt additive, which can reduce the construction temperature of asphalt pavement by at least 20 oC without compromising its mechanical performance. In the end, there were remarks and discussions on recycling wastes into pavement.

RCRE member listed among as highly cited researchers 2022 by Clarivate Analytics

Prof. Dan TSANG who's a key member of the RCRE has been recognised in the list of "Highly Cited Researchers 2022" by Clarivate Analytics for his significant research impact, reflected in the publication of multiple papers that have been frequently cited by fellow academics.

Delegation Visit of China State Construction HK

A group of 10 members from China State Construction (HK) visited RCRE laboratory on 10 October 2022. During the lab tour, Prof. Poon introduced the Low carbon architectural products for anti-virus (anti-COVID19), the foam glass-based lightweight concrete for low carbon MiC, the sustainable Permeable Concrete for Urban Drainage and the process of turning concrete waste into low carbon products by carbonation.
